Job Description
Cuningham is seeking a Senior Project Architect, to share in our vision. We are a forward-thinking design firm that values people, creative problem solving, and a learning mindset in the pursuit of unique, regenerative solutions that fit our clients' needs.
As a Senior Project Architect, you will lead the design and technical process through all project phases, including the development of deliverables and the documentation of design solutions required by both the project's design and the local governing code. This team member can lead widely varied projects in scale and scope, as well as manage multiple teams of various sizes and experience levels. This position is unique in that you will regularly work alongside the client's operations and facilities teams and act as a liaison with project teams and studio leadership.
This position is located onsite in Verona, Wisconsin.
What you will do
  • Lead and manage onsite team.
  • Lead development of design solutions, technical coordination, and production efforts on a wide range of activities and projects, through all phases of the design, in a collaborative design process.
  • Onsite contact for client, contractor and consultant groups, lead collaboration and manage expectations with those teams providing clear feedback bi-directionally.
  • Encourage and apply regenerative approaches to design and performance of the built, social, and natural environments.
  • Lead the development and documentation of a project, including large scale projects, by managing multiple project leaders and collaborating with other senior project leaders. Focus on a high level of creative, technically sound, and wholistic solutions for our clients.
  • Motivate and mentor the project team to provide their best by supporting team member development and growth through thoughtful task assignment.
  • Manage collaboration with related project partners (clients, consultants and contractors) for best design outcomes.
  • Influence and lead internal programs to continually improve design best practices and outcomes.
  • Lead code review as well as identify and resolve special code conditions, as well as lead communication as needed with local AHJ.
  • Direct QA/QC process.
  • Lead design and validation of envelope systems.
  • Lead construction administration activities along with other project leaders and on-site staff.
  • Maintain responsible control over technical submissions when required to sign and seal documents.
  • Be accountable for a complete and quality set of architectural documents meeting contract requirements.
  • Be accountable for input on architectural detailing and documentation standards across the firm.
What we look for
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in architecture.
  • Active architectural registration/license in at least one U.S. state is preferred but not required.
  • 20+ years of overall industry experience, hospitality and workplace experience preferred, and successful completion of at least two projects in the role of project architect or comparable.
  • Proficient with MS Office, Bluebeam, Revit/BIM 360.
  • Familiar with Adobe Creative Suite, Rhino, Enscape, and Lumion.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, including: clear and concise communication, active listening and observation as well as seek understanding of others' points of view looking at verbal and non-verbal cues to encourage open and honest discussions
