Job Purpose:

We are seeking a highly-motivated scientist to fill a cellular biology laboratory position in the Protein, Cell, & Structural Sciences Department within the Target Discovery division of Research Technologies located in Upper Providence, PA. The primary responsibility of the department is to design, generate, validate, and archive biological reagents for discovery activities across all of GSK's therapeutic modalities. The department also provides the structural and mechanistic understanding of drug target, molecular recognition, and mode of action to deliver the best molecule.

The successful candidate will work as part of the biological archiving team supporting biological archiving activities for the Upper Providence site and in support of requests from the UK for testing and resupply. The BioArchiving Scientist will maintain GSK's biological asset inventory and will fulfill requests in a timely manner, will preserve new deposits of plasmids, viruses, strains, and cell lines and will replenish these to meet user requests and performing sample QC testing as required. In addition, they will maintain their relevant electronic laboratory notebook and ensure biological archiving information is complete and accurate throughout the year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Acquire, supply, process, perform QC and archive biological samples ensuring adherence to ethical & regulatory requirements.

  • Weekly testing for mycoplasma and sterility and the monthly cell line authentication tests

  • Communication of results to requestors in a timely and effective manner.

  • Ensure biological sample inventories and databases are accurate, complete and up-to-date.

  • Act as a point of contact for GSK biologists globally to access global bio archiving capabilities.

  • Ensure compliance with all GSK R&D data integrity practices, ethics codes, standards and training, and safety training and practice.

  • Work in a matrix team environment to enable optimal delivery of project and department objectives to the highest possible scientific standard.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum BS/BA in a life sciences discipline (e.g. cellular biology) with relevant laboratory or sample management experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Experience with biological sample management.

  • Knowledge and experience working with human and non-human biological samples.

  • Practical knowledge of tissue culture and cell biology techniques.

  • Strong data management skills and advanced skills in Microsoft Office programs.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Self-motivated, proactive, detail oriented, & able to prioritize work in response to multiple demands.

  • Demonstrated strengths in high performance behaviors, such as building relationships, flexible thinking, and enabling/driving change.
