Position Description

The New York City office of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC NY) seeks a professional to fill the position of Senior Community Development Officer. This position reports to Senior Director of Programs & Administration and the programs staff. The local New York State program, LISC NY, works with nonprofit, community-based organizations to develop affordable housing, commercial enterprises, community facilities, and nonprofit capacity building efforts. Since its founding in 1979, LISC NY has invested over $2.7 billion, leveraging an additional $6 billion in low-income communities. This has resulted in nearly 40,000 affordable homes built and preserved as well as 1.8 million square feet of retail and community space created. Under the direction of the Senior Director of Programs & Administration, the Senior Community Development Officer will develop and implement a fundraising strategy that will include a multi-million-dollar campaign over the next three years. Working in concert with the Executive Director; the Senior Community Development Officer will be responsible for identifying funding opportunities in support of general program requirements that align with the LISC NY strategic program and fundraising strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and manage special events in support of the development of programs.
  • Oversee the development of print and other media materials in support of the Programs unit.
  • Coordinate with, train and supervise other members of staff who have responsibility for neighborhoods/groups participating in the program.
  • Prepare programmatic budgets and reports as required.
  • Assume responsibility for special projects, as assigned.

Program Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee the CRM system function for the LISC NY team to maximize alignment between programmatic and funding efforts.
  • Create and/or find other programs and resources that will enhance the LISC NY Capacity Building programs, and generally and the neighborhoods specifically.
  • Manage reporting and compliance function for the LISC NY fundraising program with internal and external stakeholders. Prepare and submit required reports timely and accurately.
  • Oversee the grant management program and monitoring tools for LISC NY; timely and accurately draft and submit funding requests as set forth and in accordance with the LISC NY Programs strategy.
  • Lead a research process that will develop tools for measuring the progress of community development in New York State.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university or relevant commensurate work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit/community development
  • Self-directed, independent workers who takes initiative and is able to create systems and processes to support the inherent duties of this position.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple, complex assignments at various stages and coordinate with multiple internal and external parties to meet approval and closing deadlines.
  • General familiarity with and commitment to the community development sector and the critical role of nonprofit organizations in driving inclusive economic development and preserving the unique cultural heritage of neighborhoods.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effective independently and collaboratively, on a team performing multiple tasks and projects.
  • Manage capacity to deliver on multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, while still meeting the priorities of the position.
  • Ability to effectively manage a challenging workload and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility and poise in dealing with a very diverse range of individuals and organizations, including but not limited to community development organizations, public agencies, private developers, funders and lenders.
  • Flexibility and poise in dealing with a diverse set of individuals and organizations,
  • Detail-oriented while still able to understand and promote a global view of the community development field and LISC.

Compensation

LISC offers a competitive salary ($83, 000 - $103, 000 salary commensurate with experience and location) and excellent fringe benefits.

Actual salaries may be based on several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's skill set, experience, education, work location and other qualifications.
