Description

The Staff Research Associate (SRA) will conduct studies with a mouse model of stroke and testing of the cellular effects of drug and biological therapeutics. The successful candidate will have previous experience with survival surgery in rodents, transcardial perfusion, PCR, Western blot, drug administration to rodents, immunohistochemistry and in stroke modeling in mice. The SRA will perform precise stereotaxic surgeries on mice as well as process tissue for histological, and immunohistochemical stains, transcardial perfusion, PCR and Western blot. In addition, the SRA will independently run research projects on mouse behavioral recovery after stroke. The SRA will also supervise undergraduate Lab Helpers and participate in lab maintenance, supply ordering and all compliance tasks with biohazard and chemical disposal protocols. The SRA will function independently in performing experiments and in initiating experiments within assigned project.

Salary Range: $25.75 - $30.71

Qualifications

All Required:

  • BS in a biological or chemical science or related experience.
  • Previous experience with mouse or rat survival surgeries and/or behavioral testing.
  • Ability to perform PCR.
  • Ability to learn new software programs and laboratory techniques as needed.
  • Skill in reading and analyzing scientific journals to keep current in laboratory techniques and research protocols.
  • Excellent verbal and written English skills.
  • Ability to cut and process tissue for histological and immunohistochemical stains using a cryostat.
