Prepare programs for stock removal, surface finish and dimensional tolerances of parts on multiple axis computer numerically controlled machine tools.

1. Under direction, review drawing and specifications to parts and determine sequence of operations, methods, and procedures, including selection of tools and holders.
2. Assist in the design of special fixtures, tooling and holders and suggest modifications to existing equipment to meet new or changing conditions.
3. Make calculations, refer to charts and tables, determine speeds and feeds according to material characteristics, holders, standard or special tooling and prepare setup instructions sheets or sketches.
4. Operate computer to prepare, create, or revise programs; Check and correct programs to ensure proper tool path, monitor machine operation, assist in proving program at machine center and make revisions as needed.
5. Revise programs according to engineering changes or authorized deviations and maintain current CNC program files.
6. Develop and implement plans and assignments for tool monitoring, tool usage, program changes, specification sheet changes, and process changes.
7. Investigate production machine difficulties, determine and correct manufacturing machining problems, including fixture, tool, and program related problems.
8. Train and instruct Machine Technicians concerning engineering processes. Confer with and assist Shop Supervisor to train Associates in new or revised methods.
9. Accumulate data to support cost reductions and improvements in manufacturing and engineering processes.
10. Participate in new product discussions and suggest changes in design or manufacturing operations for effective utilization of facilities.
11. Apply knowledge and ability to set up and operate a variety of production machinery in multiple cells as required to perform job duties.

Education and/or Experience: High School diploma or equivalency and prefer Vocational degree in related field or a minimum of three years of experience performing like functions, or a combination of experience and education.

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend written and oral instructions, including Engineering Change Requests and Manufacturing Change Requests, blueprints, operation manuals, procedure and process guidelines and other short correspondence. Ability to communicate with production associates, engineering staff, supervisors and managers to share information, solve problems, and train.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to use and apply advanced mathematics including algebra, geometry, trigonometry and statistics. Requires the use of complicated drawings and a wide variety of precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, vernier scales, and special gauges and test equipment, where interpretation is required. Use and knowledge of parts processing programming for computer numerically controlled machine tools. Reference use of set up sheets, parts drawings, specifications, operation sheets, charts, and tables.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Requires the ability to complete Lock Out/Tag Out training.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to troubleshoot and solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram or schedule form. Exercise judgement to determine sequence of duties and operations to be applied to machining within the limits of standard or accepted practice.

Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to troubleshoot and solve machine and process problems. Ability to operate various office equipment. Proficient in use of CNC programming and use of a variety of machine tools. Proficient in a variety of software programs used in the engineering department.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is frequently required to stand and use hands to finger or touch objects, tools, or controls, push and pull objects, and lift and/or move 5 to 25 lbs. The associate is occasionally required to bend and stoop, use foot/feet to operate equipment and repetitively handle objects, and lift and/or move 50 to 80 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include near acuity and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the associate will be required to operate the computer in the sitting position for an extended period of time.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate frequently works near moving mechanical parts, comes in contact with water or liquids, and has exposure to electrical shock, vibration, fumes, and chips. The noise level, while working on the production floor, is usually loud. The noise level in the office environment is usually moderate. Our facility is a climate-controlled environment which helps our equipment run more efficiently and makes our working conditions a better place to work.
