Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage all operational data related and reporting initiatives for Client Advocacy and other supported areas using operational metrics related to back office and contact center operations, including supervising teams related to data governance and reporting governance.

  • Provide guidance for, coordinate with, and set prioritization for technology teams to obtain the appropriate IT support and systems development to ensure that Client Advocacy operational data is consistent, accurate, and is routed on a timely basis to all applications and data stores reporting mechanism.

  • Establish and/or refine formal policies relating to any aspect of operational Insurance data governance and reporting governance. Collaborate with Insurance leaders to establish data source of truth, validation, and continuous testing. When necessary, work with Insurance leaders to address data and reporting governance issues and conflicts as they arise.

  • Provide insight into the names, definitions, calculations, sources and other attributes of operational metrics.

  • Develop and maintain reporting and dashboards for Insurance function leaders which align to agreed upon metrics and AIP Capabilities.

  • Lead and own the Operational Data Governance Program with direct accountability for the:

    • Development of a data and metric stewardship program involving multiple functional areas that ensures data quality and accuracy.

    • Sets clear business rules around the datas source of truth to ensure continuity across the function

    • Supervising staff focused on improving operational data quality and telling the Insurance top of the house data story.

    • Working with staff to develop and track data-related metrics across data quality, timeliness, stewardship, and usage.

    • Evolution and ongoing stewardship of effective application(s) meta-data to advance the Operational Data Governance program.

    • Coordination with Enterprise Data Governance and other data partners and establish synergies where appropriate.

  • Lead and establish refined department processes involving business intelligence and reporting to increase efficiency, reduce risk of errors, and remain current with business intelligence and reporting technology tools and techniques.

  • Establish a continuous feedback loop for stakeholders comment on critical data and reporting needs and perceptions pertaining to data and report governance, design, content, timeliness, and quality. Based upon stakeholder feedback, direct cross-functional efforts to capture new data, re-design reports, and adjust method and timing of delivery as needed. Address issues as they arise and work to continually enforce data and reporting best practices.

  • Continuously review and revise data governance best practices as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in a Finance, Data Science or a related field.

  • 10+ years experience in progressively responsible roles in systems, client computing, or data analysis

  • Graduate degree (e.g., MBA or JD) and/or relevant certifications (e.g. CFA charter) preferred.

  • (Preferred) Expertise in one or more data warehouse, business intelligence, or analytical tools such as Netezza, SAS, Tableau, SQL, SQL based ETL, SPSS, PowerBI, MSBI, Visual Basic, TSO, Unix, or JCL.

  • Ability to adapt to changes in data sources, data environments, and new systems/applications.

  • Ability to influence and lead cross-functionally, Ddrive for results, strong work ethic and advanced problem-solving skills.

  • Able to see the connections across disparate processes and to engage a wide variety of stakeholders at different levels of the organization.

  • Intellectual curiosity and willingness to challenge the status quo and find better ways of doing things.

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results and recommendations in written, verbal and presentation form at an appropriate level for a business audience.

  • Proven ability to build rapport, negotiate, gain the confidence, and work successfully with personnel in a variety of areas across the company.

  • Ability to lead teams of people and guide/direct the activities of others.

  • Attention to detail and a willingness/ability to dig into data and resolve data quality issues.

  • Technical expertise with data models, database design, and enterprise data management (EDM) preferred

Compensation Range:

Pay Range - Start:

$110,040.00

Pay Range - End:

$204,360.00

Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an in dividual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Positions in certain locations (such as California) may provide an increase on the standard pay structure based on the location.
