Job Summary:

The Wisconsin School of Business is seeking the next staff Director to lead the Marketing Leadership Institute. The Institute's mission is to build partnerships between academia and industry to advance marketing leadership, discovery, and impact. As the Director, you will collaborate with students (undergraduate and graduate), faculty, and staff at the Wisconsin School of Business, as well as with senior marketing professionals. Establishing strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders is a key part of the role. Knowledge of technology, digital platforms, and AI, especially as they pertain to the rapidly changing field of marketing, is highly valued. The ideal candidate should have outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. While experience in academic program administration and student admissions/advising is not required, it is an advantage. The Director will report to the Institute's academic director and manage a team of dedicated professionals. We seek a self-motivated, collaborative leader with a proven background in marketing and leadership. The MLI continues to grow by serving students across programs (undergraduate and graduate); we are looking for a person who is adaptable to change to help create greater impact.

1. Facilitate industry connection events, networking & mentoring, including the External Advisory Board and biennial Marketing Summit.
a. Develop and activate an annual activity plan for MLI fostering relationships and engagement.
b. Develop and maintain a strong External Advisory Board (EAB) of companies whose representatives represent the key areas of marketing and career pathways.
c. Support the MLI through strong industry partnerships and communities built around the career pathways.
d. Host our industry conference, the Marketing Summit, supporting lifelong learning and interaction between students, alumni and EAB.

2. Teaching & Enhancing student preparedness through experiential learning
a. Teach Current Topics, a 1-credit experiential learning class on emerging topics and case study examples in marketing
b. Teach another 3-credit course (e.g., Consulting Practicum or something the department requires)

3. Focus on the full-time Marketing MBA students
a. Assist program office with admissions, interviewing candidates, recruiting prospects
b. Assist MSC with marketing the program
c. Help prepare full time Marketing MBAs for their careers with a special focus on experiential learning and leadership skills

4. Operational and fiscal management, including overseeing the MLI team
a. Lead overall team roles & coordination
b. Leads overall budget planning and management
c. Lead and design events and activities to maximize student learning

Principal duties:
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT:
Create innovative experiential learning opportunities for our students in collaboration with our industry partners and internal WSB partners. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement to best serve graduate and undergraduate students in marketing in collaboration with the Marketing department at the Wisconsin School of Business.

PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION:
Serve as the primary contact person with the industry for the Marketing Leadership Institute. Develop MLI budget and manage MLI funds throughout the year. Guide all aspects of program promotion and delivery in collaboration with the Marketing department, MBA program office, and the Marketing and Strategic Communications team at the Wisconsin School of Business.

COMMUNICATIONS:
Maintain close relationships with the Center's external advisory board members, pertinent professional organizations, faculty, alumni, staff, and students.

TEACHING:
Teach Current Topics course and another 3-credit course for graduate students. Plan and organize extracurricular educational seminars, workshops and discussions with faculty, external advisory board members and MLI alumni.

Responsibilities: Provides classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction associated with more than one lecture or laboratory course, assists with the design and execution of administrative functions associated with academic instruction and the development of pedagogy/andragogy or assessment tools and resources to support quality student learning. Provides for-credit instruction in formats such as classroom, online and/or laboratory settings, including grading. Serves as an instructor of record.
  • 5% Designs curriculum and/or techniques for instruction in a disciplinary area and suggests new ways of effective instruction in courses within that discipline
  • 5% Assesses learner performance and prepares reports recommending instructional improvements
  • 5% Develops teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategy and trains faculty and other instructional staff in use of said instructional techniques and programs
  • 5% Provides classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including grading
  • 15% Supervises the day-to-day activities of work unit employees involved in instructional support as needed
  • 5% Develops grant proposals for instructional development and may serve as principal or co-principal investigator on grants to develop new teaching methods in the discipline
  • 10% May administer budget and personnel for instructional grants and programs
  • 30% Assists in defining the objectives of the program and plays a major role in carrying out program duties
  • 10% Serves as the primary representative of the center, develops and fosters relationships with internal stakeholders. Works with academic program offices to enhance student placements.
  • 10% Develops policies and procedures as needed. Develops external partnerships for industry input into our program, employment opportunities for our students. Create and execute programs corporations will sponsor to generate revenue to balance budget.

Education:

Required
MBA or related graduate degree

Qualifications:

Required:
- 5 Years of industry experience in marketing in areas such as brand management, product marketing, and consumer insights.

Preferred:
- An understanding of technology, digital platforms, and AI as it relates to the rapidly evolving marketing function.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong networking skills and a commitment to student education and career development.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
