The Team:

We are an order fulfillment center for three unique customer channels. The largest business channel is Direct to Consumer and highly seasonal in nature with a large ramp up in capacity in the 4th quarter. In addition, we offer consumer services such as returns processing and an onsite doll care center, as well as value add services such as gift wrapping. The Distribution Center is part of the Mattel North American network of DC's and as such we work as a team to warehouse and transport inventory to balance capacity across the network and support partner Mattel business units.


The Opportunity:

The Lead Trainer reports to the Manager Distribution Services and works closely with the DC leadership and HR to identify learning needs and then develop and deliver technical and procedural position specific training and other resources such as job-aids, check-lists and manuals for a wide variety of DC roles. Types of training include specific DC job skills, safety instruction, programs to develop bench strength among full-time staff, and seasonal onboarding program to support 300+ short-term staff brought in to support the 4th quarter peak season. The Lead Trainer is responsible for developing additional training staff to support the 4th quarter ramp up, including bi-lingual staff.

What Your Impact Will Be:

  • Collaborates with DC leadership and HR to identify training needs and assists in the development of training/orientation programs and materials.
  • Identifies opportunities where training can improve unsafe conditions, improve efficiency, and reduce errors. Partners with EHS and HR to ensure that safety and policy training materials are up to date in both English and Spanish.
  • Helps develop and facilitate off season programs to build cross functional skills among the long term regular and variable staff. Develops a "train the trainer" program and helps recruit and develop a seasonal support team to conduct orientations and floor training.
  • Facilitates the administration of performance tracking metrics and meaningful feedback.
  • Delivers functional training & provides technical support and coaching to learners.
  • Conducts seasonal staff orientations (English and Spanish speaking) and safety training.
  • Leads classroom training and hands on training on the floor to ensure team members learn job skills and understand processes and responsibilities in Picking, Special Handling, and Material Handling.
  • Works with the Supervisors, Leads and Seasonal Leads to assess the job skills of seasonal employees, recommend personnel moves where needed, and provide additional training and coaching as required.
  • Provides feedback and documentation on seasonal training performance to Supervisors, as needed.
  • Works with Supervisors to hire a seasonal support team to help conduct training. Provides day-to-day instruction and direction to the training team.
  • Provides an engaging and positive overview of the Company mission and employment opportunities via seasonal orientations and tours.
  • Regularly checks in with variable employees throughout the year to assess their comfort level and serve as a bridge to leadership for addressing any open questions or concerns.
  • Participates on a variety of committees, including Safety and Activities, to help ensure that actions and output from these committees are relevant and meaningful to all employees.

What We're Looking For:

Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess very strong people skills and be able to maintain a calm and motivating persona in front of a diverse audience. Must support an inclusive and respectful work environment.
  • Proficiency in common office software, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong presentation, coaching and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts including evenings, weekends, and overtime during the 4th quarter.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with private and sensitive information.
  • Ability to multi-task to effectively manage the progression and ultimate completion of projects.
  • Bilingual in Spanish - Preferred but not required.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience working in a service or DC field and training experience preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish as well as English a plus, but not a requirement.
