Job Description
Job Summary:

This position is a split role between University Health Services Community Health department at UHS and Youth Summer camps. Summer Youth camps are held on the UW-Madison campus during the period of April-August. During this time frame the camps may account for up to 100% of scheduled work hours. The position will cover camp nurse responsibilities where 8-hour shifts vary depending on need, time of year, and activity within the hours of 7:00AM to 7:00PM based on camp needs. The work may be performed at health offices located in multiple locations across campus.

The schedule for the Community Health portion of this position is typically 40 hours between the hours of 8am and 5pm. This is subject to change based on operational needs.

Community Health Job Task Summary:
--Administer immunizations according to UHS protocol and CDC guidelines.
--Administer and interpret screening tests for tuberculosis. Maintain competency in administration and reading of tests.
--Administer allergy injections under the orders of prescribing physician.
--Identify local and systemic allergic reactions to allergy immunotherapy. Treat local reactions according to physician orders and UHS policy and protocol based on AAAAI best practices.
--Provide comprehensive patient education to reduce health risks associated with travel.
--Administer travel immunizations according to UHS protocol and CDC guidelines.
--Plan, organize, and participate in Community Health outreach programs on the UW Campus.

Youth Camps Job Task Summary:
--Administer prescription and over-the-counter medications to summer youth programs as outlined in participant health profiles.
--Illness and injury management and/or triage to appropriate area medical facilities. Serve as a medical resource to bridge the gap between basic medical knowledge and emergencies.
--Communicate with parents and program staff for overall well-being of minors attending residential youth programing.
--Maintain health center records including, but not limited to treatment logs, medication logs, and incident reports.
--Assist with administrative tasks such as generating health reports, approving staffing requests and supply ordering.
--Serve as a training mentor to student staff.

Responsibilities: Provides professional nursing care to patients through assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation to ensure physical and mental well-being.
  • 75% Provides care to individuals within a specialized area of medicine to ensure physical and mental well-being
  • 10% Evaluates current care plans, completes assessments, develops specialized treatment plans, documents medical activity, and analyzes patient data and results to help diagnosis and treat illnesses and diseases
  • 10% Educates patients and their support systems on how to manage conditions and to promote the health and well-being of patients and those around them
  • 5% Participates in medical research as needed in collaboration with medical professionals and internal and external stakeholders

Education:

Required
Associate's Degree in nursing

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree in nursing

Qualifications:

Required:
--English proficiency
--3 years' experience as a registered nurse.
--The selected candidate must be available to work the final two weeks of June to assist with youth camps. There may be additional required workdays based on operational needs.
Employees will receive advance notice regarding any required workdays.

Preferred:
--Experience working in ambulatory clinic setting.
--Experience working under nurse protocols including travel health, allergy immunotherapy injections, administration of immunizations, TB skin test placement and assessment.
--Technical skills such as: injections, emergency response to anaphylactic allergy immunotherapy reactions, medication administration.
--Competent in the use of the computer, proficiency with electronic health record systems.
--Knowledgeable in the needs of pediatric, adolescent, and young adult populations.

License/Certification:

RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure And/Or Compact State Licensure
Currently licensed in the state of Wisconsin

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

This is an annualized rate, with the hourly starting rate $35/hr.
