This position will be partially based in the following office location:

Manchester, NH

For hybrid roles, employees must be able to commute to Manchester, NH on a regular basis.

The opportunity

Reporting directly to the Deputy General Counsel working as part of the Office of General Counsel and Compliance team, you will help provide general legal services on behalf of the University to all the College's constituencies, including the Board of Trustees, senior administrators, faculty, and staff. You will also support OGCC's University attorneys with their practice areas and may be responsible for specific practice area(s) as assigned. You will need to live a commutable distance from the office in Manchester, NH as this is a hybrid position.

What you'll do:

  • Responsible for the legal review and management of institutional contracts by reviewing requests for proposals for legal form, drafting and negotiating contracts, and ensuring compliance by the University with applicable laws and regulations at the local, state and federal levels.
  • Provide legal support, research and special projects in the full array of areas handled by the OGCC, such as academic and student affairs, sponsored research, international programs, governance, policies, human resources, purchasing, real estate, construction, intellectual property, and litigation matters.
  • Work directly with the relevant administrators and faculty, draft, review and revise purchase agreements, license agreements, inter-institutional agreements both domestic and international, sponsored research agreements, location agreements, and other contracts.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis and draft legal memoranda.
  • Keep current on developments in law and regulation at the federal, state, and local levels about higher education institutions.
  • Draft correspondence, policies, and reports on behalf of the OGCC.
  • Gather and manage discovery materials and processes for outside counsel in litigation matters.
  • May design and deliver appropriate training to University community members.

What we're looking for:

  • Degree(s): Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and passage of state bar exam
  • 0-3 years of experience practicing law with some demonstrated interest in, internship or experience related to non-profit organizations or education.
  • Must be admitted and in good standing in New Hampshire or other state bar, admission to NH bar expected within one year of employment.
  • Admission to practice before appropriate state and federal courts may be required.
  • Experience building relationships with a diverse population, demonstrating a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, initiative, self-motivation, practical learning skills, enthusiasm, and timely task completion.
  • Demonstrated capability for legal research, analysis, and reasoning.
  • Experience working collaboratively as a member of a cross-functional team and governance structures.
  • Experience drafting policies, procedures, and other administrative documents.
