JOB SUMMARY, DESCRIPTION & QUALIFICATIONS:

Job Summary

The Technician will work collaboratively with college teams to ensure maintenance, repair, transport, and purchase of transportation equipment is completed. This includes, but is not limited to CDL tractors and trailers, automotive vehicles, gas- or diesel-powered equipment, and other trailers in the Learning fleet. The Technician will develop and maintain an inventory and preventative maintenance schedule for equipment listed above. Additionally, the Technician will also work with other members of the Learning Maintenance Team to support all Learning equipment.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully with or without reasonable accommodation.

Maintenance and repair of vehicles, trailers, and equipment:

  • Develop a preventative maintenance schedule and perform the maintenance of all Learning vehicles, trailers, and gas- or diesel-powered equipment.

  • Work with faculty and other equipment users to inspect and troubleshoot Learning vehicles, trailers, and gas- or diesel-powered equipment.

  • Complete repairs on Learning vehicles, trailers, and gas- or diesel-powered equipment.

  • Work with vendors to order supplies and parts.

  • Work with vendors, faculty, and other Learning staff to coordinate the repair of Learning vehicles, trailers, and gas- or diesel-powered equipment that cannot be completed within NTC.

  • Determine cost estimates of repairs and provide recommendations to appropriate NTC staff if repairs should be completed.

  • Work with appropriate NTC staff to pay for maintenance and repairs of Learning vehicles, trailers, and gas- or diesel-powered equipment

  • Document costs of repairs for each Learning vehicle, trailer, and gas- or diesel-powered equipment.

  • Winterize and de-winterize appropriate trailers.

  • Measurement of position success includes: Regularly updated and clearly documented list of Learning vehicles, trailers, and gas- or diesel-powered equipment; Regularly updated and clearly documented preventative maintenance schedule; Regularly updated and clearly documented repairs completed for each individual piece of equipment that includes cost; Satisfied stakeholders (faculty, staff and learners);

Transport of Learning vehicles, trailers, and gas- or diesel-powered equipment:

  • Work with faculty and staff to move Learning vehicles, trailers, and gas- or diesel-powered equipment to scheduled locations.

  • Set up vehicles and trailers at locations based on directions from staff or faculty.

  • Pick up or deliver equipment or supplies.

  • Operate many vehicles and equipment, including trucks, tractors, forklift, telehandler, scissor lift, trenchers, backhoe, and various other farm equipment

  • Measurements of position success include: Faculty and staff satisfaction; Equipment is safely transported to identified locations and is set up correctly and on time; Ability to operate, or willingness to learn how to operate various vehicles and equipment.

Assist other Learning Technicians on various projects:

  • Assist with the troubleshooting and repair of all other Learning equipment.

  • Assist with the preventative maintenance of all other Learning equipment.

  • Assist with various jobs that may require physical activity, such as tearing down and setting up areas for remodel, setting up temporary infrastructure for indoor or outdoor events, loading and unloading supplies or equipment on or off trucks, etc.

  • Communicate in a professional, clear, concise and consistent manner with all NTC staff and faculty, as well as other stakeholders to build trust and confidence in the team and College.

  • Metrics of success for this position include: Faculty and staff satisfaction; Positive attitude when assisting; Completing tasks in a timely manner

Minimum Qualifications Required

In limited circumstances, NTC may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

  • Commercial Driver License (CDL)

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities

  • Desire and willingness to stay current with technologies in these fields.

  • Must be able to act with minimal supervision to determine methods and procedures on new or special assignments and be able to demonstrate a sense of urgency and adaptive response to challenges.

  • A high degree of innovation and creativity.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Applicant has knowledge and experience necessary to be certified with the "INSPECTOR QUALIFICATIONS Certification - 49 CFR - Part 396.19

  • Applicant has knowledge and experience necessary to be certified with the "BRAKE INSPECTOR QUALIFICATIONS Certification - 49 CFR - Part 396.25

A valid CDL Driver's License with the ability to pass NTC insurance carrier requirements.
