Nurse Educator/Professional Development Manager-Operating Room

32 hours

Lead the creation of professional development programs to successfully onboard new nursing departmental staff within the operating room (OR). Lead Periop 101 program based on AORN standards for new to practice operating room nurses in partnership with the central nursing professional development manager leading practice transition programs. Design professional development programs for OR nursing department staff to enhance nursing professional practice and achieve excellence in patient outcomes. Professional development programs and activities are aligned with and support Nursing Professional Development standards; AORN practice standards; BWFH Mission, Vision and Values; BWFH Strategic Goals and regulatory requirements.

S/he collaborates with the Nurse Director of the OR in the review of Nurse Sensitive Indicators, quality outcomes, and regulatory compliance metrics for the unit or division. The Professional Development Manager utilizes expertise in professional development to establish practice based improvement projects to achieve targeted performance measures; promotes evidence-based practice (EBP) and is accountable for the alignment of EBP and policy/practice standards. They will serve as a highly visible leader and role model in the development/obtainment of hospital unit and division mission and goals. They will embrace the concept of change and lead staff through the change process as evidenced by adoption of new behaviors or processes and improved outcome measures.

Qualifications
  • Master's Degree or higher in Nursing required. If Master's is not in nursing, BSN required.
  • Massachusetts Registered Nurse Licensure required.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider required, BLS instructor certification preferred.
  • 3-5 years of operating room nursing experience required.
  • Certification in clinical or professional specialty preferred.
  • Previous teaching experience preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong critical thinking skills.
  • Motivated and self-directed; ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Accepting/supportive of rapid change process.
