JOB OBJECTIVE: Supports global customers in using Short Tandem Repeat (STR) products and services outside of forensics and paternity. The position covers technical reagent workflows, Capillary Electrophoresis, and data analysis for different segments in North America such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, academia and clinical.

CORE DUTIES:

Field Demo and Customer Training related duties:

1. Conduct and guide product demos and trainings in customer labs as the "technical product expert" for the chemistries, related instruments, and applications. Concentrate on the Clinical use of STR chemistries and data analyses based on capillary electrophoresis data. Provide technical advice, implement workflows, troubleshoot issues, and recommend products and solutions.

2. Collaborate with North American sales team to respond to inquiries and opportunities about Promega products and technologies.

3. Coordinate with the Field Support Scientist Clinical Team and account owners to schedule either on-site or online trainings to demonstrate and implement reagent and instrument workflows.

4. Conduct experimental tests on applications according to customer needs/issues and company priorities.

5. Generate laboratory data that contributes to the understanding of the technical challenges and benefits associated with reagents, instrumentation, and data analysis.

6. Keep accurate and comprehensive records of lab processes, report results and fill out Field Trip Reports. The main focus of application work will be on STR products, applications, and related equipment.

7. Collaborate with the Field Support Engineers, Scientific Applications, Strategic Clinical Collaborations Management Team, Technical Services. Medical Affairs, Product Management and Clinical Scientific Business Unit to help with business requirements and objectives.

8. Work with Technical Service and Product Management to share customer feedback, report issues and to work together to answer customer questions. Support customers before and after sales as needed.

9. Give feedback on customer needs, success, general product improvements and how customers see competitor products and how they compare to Promega products.

10. Stay informed of the latest technical developments to assist customers and resolve their technical problems. Provide customers with information in a courteous and expert manner.

11. Review, verify, and comment on products and related methods in new product design as required by the design control part of our quality system. Give feedback to product teams as an internal field tester if needed.

OCCASIONAL DUTIES:

1. Provide technical application support, tradeshow activities and related, and participate in meetings and seminars for Promega Marketing and Sales.

2. Participate in joint initiatives of the company and the branch by providing customer insights and product data to help with the creation of new products and the promotion of marketing activities.

SPECIFIC JOB-RELATED SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Customer support skills with a commitment to customer service.

2. Readiness and flexibility to travel up to 65% of the time, sometimes with little warning.

3. Can handle multiple tasks and plan time effectively, deliver work on time and adjust to a setting with frequent interruptions and changing demands.

4. To perform all the tasks and duties of the job, position will need strong communication and time management skills.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

1. BS/MS/PhD degree in forensic science, molecular biology, cell biology, or related life science area.

2. At least five years of lab experience with skills in Nucleic Acid extraction, quantification, normalization, Short Tandem Repeat (STR) workflow and data analysis, as well as related equipment (e.g. capillary electrophoresis, qPCR, RT-PCR, next generation sequencing). Demonstrated experience in using STR products and data analysis.

3. Demonstrated ability to use software programs such as, but not limited to: GeneMapper, Softgenetics' GeneMarker and ChimerMarker softwares, Microsoft 365, Client Relationship Management software and others. Also, willingness and capacity to learn and apply new programs as required. Experience with Internet technology is an asset.

4. Able to present and speak to large crowds and respond well to customer queries

5. Customer support skills with a commitment to customer service.

6. Excellent problem-solving skills.

7. Able to manage time and work effectively, handle multiple projects at once, meet challenging deadlines and adapt to an environment with frequent changes and interruptions.

8. Proficiency in explaining the basics, concepts and technical theory of experimental design, methods, and outcomes in a brief and professional way.

9. Good at speaking and writing. Talk to customers and colleagues by phone, email and face-to-face. Can write reports and instructions.


10. Knowledge of how to handle biological samples, some of which might be infectious samples. Awareness of proper biosafety techniques.

11. Must possess a valid driver's license and passport.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Experience in clinical laboratory or similar fields; familiarity with next generation sequencing methods; previous knowledge of using Promega products and/or other comparable products desired.

2. Demonstrated skill in leading and providing intellectual input to projects that involve collaboration across different fields.

3. Previous work with customers and products in life science or clinical fields (Technical Service, Sales, Marketing, Product Management, etc.).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Ability to lift and move packages weighing up to 50 lbs. required.

2. Ability to stand for extended periods of time.

3. Ability to drive.

4. Ability and willingness to maintain a domestic and international travel schedule up to 50%, occasionally on short notice.

5. Candidate will work out of home, preferably near a major airport
