Summary:

The Clinical Pharmacy Technician is a specialized, advanced role for certified pharmacy technicians. This position is based in the Emergency Department Satellite Pharmacy. The clinical technician will be responsible for operational tasks, including inventory management and IV compounding, as well as clinical duties such as performing medication histories and assisting the pharmacist at bedside for critically ill patients.

The Clinical Pharmacy Technician promotes the provision of comprehensive pharmacy services throughout the patient stay by providing accurate medication history services, coordinating medication distribution processes, supporting the clinical pharmacist in the delivery of optimal pharmaceutical care, and managing medication needs at discharge. Clinical Pharmacy Technicians must also be proficient in general pharmacy technician duties of the Pharmacy Department. All activities are done in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations with the health and welfare of the patient paramount.

Shift times are primarily days, with weekend and holiday rotation and occasional evening shifts.

Education and Experience

  • High School or equivalent required.

  • Minimum of three years of experience as a pharmacy technician.

  • Pharmacy technician experience in a pediatric setting preferred.

  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office computer applications, Epic EHR, DoseEdge, and Omnicell preferred.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification

  • Texas State Board of Pharmacy Registration

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification

  • BLS Certification (within 90 days of hire)

  • ACPE IV Certification (within 6 months of hire)

  • Medication History training certificate course, as specified by Pharmacy Leadership (within 6 months of hire)

  • PTCB Medication History Certification (within one year of employment)
