Work Schedule:

Part-time per diem position. 12-15, 24 hour call days per month. Days, weekends and holidays required. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department.

We are seeking a Surgical Recovery Specialist to assist with the recovery and preservation of the heart and lungs for transplant. The UW Organ and Tissue Donation (OTD) service is recognized as one of the most successful organ procurement programs in the nation.

We are seeking a Surgical Recovery Specialist to:

  • Travel around the country to assist UW organ recovery surgeons with the removal of organs for transplant, research, etc. according to UW OTD established protocols and procedures.
  • Work with specialized devices and procedures to preserve organs for transplant.
  • Assist with organ preservation and diagnostic testing.
  • Discuss the organ donation process and provide onsite support to donor hospital, transplant and OPO staff.

Education:

Minimum - Post-secondary education in the field of surgical technology, surgical assistant, health sciences or applied sciences. Individuals with considerable relevant clinical and surgical experience may be considered.

Work Experience:

Minimum - Five (5) years of relevant clinical and/or surgical experience

Preferred - AB-SRS - Experience in abdominal organ procurement and/or transplantation. CT-SRS - Experience in cardiothoracic organ procurement and/or transplantation. Both - Experience with organ preservation devices

Licenses and Certifications:

Minimum - Valid State of Wisconsin Driver's License

Preferred - Licensed in the State of Wisconsin as a Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurse, or Surgical Technologist First Assistant NCCPA certified or NCCPA eligible.
