ABOUT THE ROLE
S.C. Johnson & Son has established a Global Information Security (GIS) Governance function, incorporating Data Governance within its charter, as part of the Legal department. As Associate Manager, Data Governance, you will support all organization-wide data governance activities, contributing to the management of the protection of sensitive data and information assets. You will assist in the implementation and adherence to an enterprise data governance framework for data policies, standards, and practices across the department, business, and functional areas. The aim is to achieve the necessary level of consistency, quality, and protection to meet overall business objectives.
The Associate Manager, Data Governance will act as a support point for governance and protection issues, collaborating closely with business and functional area leadership to enhance the quality and value of core structured and unstructured data assets. This includes responding to regulatory protection requirements and supporting the strategic objectives of the department. The role is crucial in facilitating the efforts led by senior positions to ensure data governance and protection across the organization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the development and execution of an enterprise data governance implementation roadmap, emphasizing the protection of data and promoting data stewardship. This includes assisting with strategic priorities for developing information-based capabilities
Assist in maintaining the data governance policy, data protection standards, and adoption requirements across the enterprise
Contribute to the rollout of an enterprise-wide data governance framework, focusing on the improvement for the protection of sensitive data through organization behavior and standard modifications, principles, governance metrics, processes, related tools, and data architecture
Help define roles and responsibilities related to data governance and assist in ensuring clear accountability for the stewardship of the company's principal information assets through education
Act as a support liaison between business/functional areas, the master data management organization, and technology teams to ensure that data-related business requirements for protecting sensitive data are clearly defined, communicated, well understood, and considered as part of operational prioritization and planning
Assist in developing & maintaining inventory and data flow diagrams of enterprise information maps, including authoritative systems, owners, and data stewards
Support senior management, consisting of resources from the business/functional areas and IT business/operations functions, to achieve their objectives; assist in resolving issues escalated from business and functional areas' data governance representatives
Stay informed about expertise and knowledge related to industry data governance best practices to help drive continuous improvements in the data governance program, including supporting policies
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU'LL BRING
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management Information Systems, Data Management, or a related field
5+ years of experience in data governance or data management roles, with a solid understanding of data governance principles, frameworks, and developing information-based capabilities
3+ years of experience in general data management practices, such as data management standards, data retention policies, governance, business adoption, as well as knowledge in business process design and workflow mapping
3+ years of experience managing security controls to protect confidential information across various business functions, including depth in supporting and integrating Microsoft solutions to enhance data governance
PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS
Experience in assisting with compliance reviews against policies and standards, demonstrating an ability to understand and apply guidelines in a business context
Demonstrated track record of improvements in data protection practices and compliance across business functions
Demonstrated proficiency in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks across various business functions
Proven adherence to data protection protocols and regulatory compliance
Experience collaborating with data owners and stewards to achieve data governance objectives
Developing project management skills, capable of contributing to project planning and execution on multiple projects with attention to detail and adherence to timelines
Demonstrated ability to support change management initiatives, including effective communication strategies, fostering culture change, and breaking down complex problems into achievable goals
Well-organized with a proven ability to manage tasks independently and effectively, even when priorities change
Strong communication skills that encompass verbal, written, and presentation capabilities, suitable for engaging effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Demonstrates a keen sense of ethics and confidentiality in handling sensitive information and decision-making
Good understanding of broad business processes related to data management and governance, showing an ability to connect data practices with business outcomes
Familiarity with information security industry best practices and standards (such as NIST, ISO, COBIT, etc.), demonstrating an ongoing interest in professional development in these areas
