Job Summary:

This position requires the knowledge, skill and experience of a swine production or animal research facility to assist in the management of the Swine Research and Teaching Center (SRTC) for the Department of Animal Sciences and Dairy Sciences. The SRTC maintains approximately 1,500 animals, 300 newborn piglets each month, over 10 unique genetic lines of pigs, and facilitates diverse nutritional, reproductive, genetics, and biomedical research projects. This is a working manager position with supervisory duties that ensure the dynamic farrow to finish SRTC operation is functioning efficiently while successfully supporting a wide array of swine experimental projects. The ideal candidate will demonstrate self-motivation, problem solving proficiencies, effective communication, and great attention to detail to support the intricacies and complexities of the operation. The position will ensure tasks are completed, protocols are followed, and develop new techniques to strengthen the operation.

Responsibilities: Plans and leads operational, outreach, and promotional activities of a research program and serves as a subject matter expert.
  • 15% Plans and directs the day-to-day operational activities of one or multiple research programs or units according to established research objectives in alignment with strategic plans and initiatives
  • 10% Assists in the development, coordination, and facilitation of trainings and workshops for internal and external audiences to disseminate research program developments and information
  • 20% Plans, develops, and implements processes and protocols to support research aims
  • 20% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 10% Serves as a unit liaison and subject matter expert among internal and external stakeholder groups, collaborates across disciplines and functional areas, provides program information, and promotes the accomplishments and developments of scholars and research initiatives
  • 15% Monitors program budget(s) and approves unit expenditures
  • 10% Develops policies, procedures, and institutional agreements on behalf of the program

Qualifications:

Required:
-Experience managing multiple projects, cases, and/or experiments simultaneously. Describe your role and the projects/nature of the work involved.
-Experience with animal and/or swine research. Describe your role and the animal(s) you worked with.
-Experience with animal handling. Describe your role and the animal(s) you worked with. A well-qualified candidate will have at least 4 years or more of experience.

Preferred:
-Experience working with a swine production facility. A well-qualified candidate will have at least 2 years or more of experience.
-Supervisory and/or operational management experience in an environment comparable to swine production or research facility.

Full Time: 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated work location in Arlington, Wisconsin 53911.

Salary:

Minimum $65,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

Additional Information:

This position will be scheduled to work 40 hours per week with the intended schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:45am - 4:30pm. Hours will be flexible in order to ensure operational needs are met, and some weekend/holiday work will be required.
