Job Description:

Madison College's School of Business and Applied Arts is hiring a Cosmetology Laboratory Coordinator for the Salon. This position provides technical assistance to Cosmetology faculty and students to support the practical lab instructional requirements of the program. The Cosmetology Laboratory Coordinator supports faculty in the salon lab and aids students as needed, contributing to a productive and educational environment.

This is a full-time, 52-weeks-per-year position, general working hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00am - 4:30pm.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Acts as a first point of contact for interested students and salon guests. Provides tours, answers questions on all things Cosmetology and Apprenticeship related. Provides administrative support for Externship program, coordinating contracts between the students and salon.
  • Assists faculty in the classroom and laboratory to support the student's learning objectives. Performs lab setup and takedown, assemble, prepare, and arrange required materials, models, mannequins, and equipment for student and faculty usage as required, based on curriculum needs. Maintains and organizes classroom, salon, and storage areas. Assist students with test preparation. Works with students to prepare for state exam by providing guidance to student, helping to create prep work.
  • Oversees key salon process including inventory management, kit ordering, service delivery, financial reporting, cash handling and client service.
  • Maintain salon dispensary area and salon lab. Prepares products for student use during lab time. Maintains inventory, kit ordering, service delivery, financial reporting, cash handling, and client service. Maintains cleanliness of salon and responsible to assist with state guidelines for safety.
  • Maintains a commitment to the college mission, vision, and values.
  • Other duties as defined by department, college, or officials.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Skill in communicating effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and persons with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated skill working as a salon owner or manager or lead stylist.
  • Knowledge of inventory processes and experience conducting inventory.
  • Knowledge of licensure requirements for Cosmetology in the state of Wisconsin.


Minimum Requirements:
  • Completed Cosmetology program and/or credentials.
  • Two (2) years working experience in a salon setting.
  • Licensed cosmetology practitioner
