Job Summary:

The Syndemics Research Group (SynRG) at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health is seeking a highly motivated and organized Project Coordinator to support ongoing research. SynRG is a collaboration between the Division of Infectious Diseases at UW-Madison, the Communicable Disease Harm Reduction Section in the Wisconsin Division of Public Health, and Vivent Health, a non-profit community based organization serving people living with and at risk for HIV. The group's mission is to improve the health and well-being of people affected by drug use, incarceration, poverty, stigmatization and other social and structural determinants of health through applied, community engaged research. The program conducts multiple NIH-funded projects that are part of national collaborative research networks, including the NIH HEAL Initiative, NIDA Rural Opioid Initiative () and the Justice Community Opioid Innovation Network (). The successful candidate will help lead and coordinate the work of NIH funded projects, working closely with Program PI Dr. Ryan Westergaard, research program colleagues, and a team of diverse faculty across UW and other institutions who have expertise in domains including statistics, engineering, public health, nursing, and epidemiology.

The Clinical Research Project Coordinator will provide overall management and coordination of the research activities and data collection of a primary research project, with additional support of other currently funded projects. The research program is currently implementing 3 NIH funded projects focusing on HIV care, addiction and overdose, incarcerated individuals, and harm reduction initiatives.

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree
Relevant areas of specialization include, but are not limited to, public health, infectious disease monitoring/management, social work, epidemiology, social sciences, and data management or biostatistics.

Qualifications:

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
*Experience managing multiple priorities, projects, or research activities at once
*Experience digesting and summarizing complex and technical research into protocols for a variety of audiences
*Experience creating and organizing processes and plans to achieve goals
*Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to facilitate and navigate complex discussions and opinions
*Attention to detail and organization

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
*Previous administrative or management experience in an academic setting
*Experience conducting NIH funded, community-based human subjects research
*Familiarity or experience with qualitative research methods
*Experience supervising employees or delegating tasks
*Data management experience and/or analysis skills using SAS, R, Stata, or another software program
*Experience with populations/communities disproportionately impacted by substance use and/or HIV or hepatitis C

License/Certification:

Required
Drivers License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards
Travel is required. Must provide a valid driver's license. Employees may use their own transportation or receive approval for University Car Fleet usage. This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location. Our team currently works with a hybrid remote schedule, convening in our office space in Madison on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

This role may require a small amount of state and domestic travel based on project need, though will not be a consistent or frequent activity.
