Position Purpose:

Veolia Water Milwaukee (VWM) is currently seeking aConveyance Engineer to assist the Conveyance System Supervisors and Manager on the daily activities of employees engaged in the operation and maintenance (O&M) of Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) wastewater conveyance system.

A typical days work may include, but not be limited to, assist the Conveyance Supervisors and Manager to plan, organize, and direct daily activities and operations of employees in wastewater conveyance system; to help monitor employees engaged in the operation and maintenance (O&M) of wastewater conveyance facilities and equipment and other areas as assigned; to assist in preparing long range work schedules and monitoring personnel daily work tasks; and to assist in the development and implementation of O&M timetable and procedures for the wastewater conveyance system.

The Conveyance Engineer will be reporting directly to the Conveyance System Manager.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

Primary Duties shall include, but not limited to, the following (as directed by the Conveyance System Supervisors and/or Manager):

  • Plans, organizes, and directs daily activities and operations of employees in wastewater conveyance systems.
  • To monitor employees engaged in the operation and maintenance (O&M) of wastewater conveyance facilities and equipment.
  • Prepares long range work schedules and assigns personnel daily work tasks.
  • Monitors the implementation of O&M policies and procedures of wastewater conveyance systems, as directed.
  • Coordinates use of equipment and facilities. Reports and coordinates maintenance and repair needs. Coordinates preventive maintenance program. Maintains repair logs and develops reports.
  • Maintains records of construction, operation, and maintenance activities. Uses information obtained to control, plan, and schedule work.
  • Assists in developing safety programs related to hazards and work practices and conducts craft training and certifies.
  • Interfaces with equipment manufacturers and factory representatives regarding purchase, installation, and support of wastewater facilities and equipment.
  • Will be required to respond under emergency conditions 24/7.
  • Attends training and continuing education sessions.
  • Attends work on a continuous and regular basis.
Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:

  • Education - Bachelor's degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering and/or Environmental Engineering or related field or equivalent experience is required. Advanced degree (Master's degree) in water, wastewater, or environmental engineering or sciences is preferred.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of practical engineering experience (planning, design, construction, etc.).
  • Must have a minimum of 2 to 5 years of hands-on operations and maintenance (O&M), management and/or design of wastewater collection system, a wastewater treatment plant or working a similar operational environment.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in the construction, operation and maintenance of wastewater collection/conveyance system, deep tunnel and/or wastewater treatment plant preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Computer skills:
    • Excellent to Proficient in MS Office, Word, Excel, and Google e-mail software.
    • Proficient/knowledgeable in Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), OWAM is current system for above ground assets, and Infonet for pipes and below grade assets.
    • Proficient/Good report writing skill.
  • Management skills:
    • Superior interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to develop and maintain good working relations with the clients, public, staff, etc.
    • Must have excellent organizational and time management skills.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

  • A Wisconsin Professional Engineer (PE) license and/or Wisconsin DNR Wastewater Certification preferred.
  • Must have a valid Wisconsin Driver's License.
