Do you have a passion for our community and the skill set to support growth at an up-and-coming health organization? Progressive Community Health Centers is seeking an experienced professional to serve as a Financial Counselor at our Lisbon Avenue Health Center.

Hours: Monday - Friday 9 am - 6 pm

Who are we?
Founded in 1999, Progressive Community Health Centers is an independent non-profit organization that operates four clinic locations in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. More than 100 employees support our agency's mission to improve the health and quality of life of the community by providing culturally competent services that address identified needs. We provide high quality, comprehensive care to roughly 16,000 patients annually, a majority of who are low-income. No one is ever turned away from our clinics based on insurance status or ability to pay. We value a patient-centered philosophy and provide range of services that include family medicine, internal medicine, women's health, urgent care, dental, radiology and integrated behavioral health. We also offer supportive services such as case management, health education and benefits enrollment.

Job Summary

The Financial Counselor reports to the Front-End Support Manager under the leadership of the Chief Financial Officer, and supports the goals of PCHC by assisting in the daily operations of the fiscal operations of the organization. The Financial Counselor is responsible for all aspects of providing customer service to patients and assisting with self-pay and Medicaid/Badger Care and Federal Marketplace applications. The Financial Counselor verifies/assess and completes slide fee scale applications and patient insurance coverage using various websites.


What do you need to qualify?

  • Two or more years experience with dealing with the public in healthcare environment or customer service setting preferred.
  • Two years experience dealing with Medicare, Medicaid, HMO's, government funding programs and commercial insurance programs required. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and remain flexible to adapt to changes.
  • Must be able to communicate with patients in regard to their financial status. Ability to maintain confidential records and files.
  • One year previous collection experience preferred. Professional oral, written and presentation communication skills.
