Job Summary:

Position will work under the direction of Dr. Amaya Atucha in the Department of Plant and Agroecosystem Sciences. The main responsibility of the position is to establish hazelnut propagation protocol to be expanded to the commercial nursery industry. Responsibilities of the position include development of protocols to establish in vitro cultures, shoot propagation, plant multiplication, and rooting of explants of hazelnut hybrid selections. In addition, care and maintenance (i.e., irrigation, fertilization, and pest control) of greenhouse plants is also expected.

Responsibilities: Identifies research problems, designs research methodologies, performs research, and helps to prepare the results for presentation to professional organizations or for scholarly publications to help advance research.
  • 25% Assists with the identification of research problems and the development of research methodologies and procedures
  • 25% Collects and analyzes research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures under general supervision and limited responsibility
  • 15% Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, and disseminates information to appropriate entities
  • 25% Attends and assists with the facilitation of scholarly events and presentations in support of continued professional development and the dissemination of research information
  • 5% Writes or assists in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding
  • 5% Serves as a main point of contact and liaison with internal and external stakeholders providing information and representing the interests of a specialized research area

Education:

Required
Master's Degree
MS degree in Plant Science or related fields

Preferred
PhD in Plant Science or related fields

Qualifications:

- Experience planning and executing research projects as lead principal investigator.
- Capacity to develop research program independently.
- Experience with sterile/aseptic techniques in plant tissue culture or in laboratory settings preferred.
- Micropropagation experience.

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Appointment Type, Duration:

Terminal, 24 month appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding

Salary:

Minimum $65,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
