Job Summary:

The Physician Assistant Program Director is responsible for the overall organization and administration/management of all aspects of the Master of Physician Assistant Studies program, including curriculum, evaluation, and accreditation of the program. The Program Director must provide effective leadership and management to meet needs of the program, school and campus requirements, and national accreditation standards. The Program Director oversees and collaborates with all faculty members, medical director, staff, and students within the program and represents the program within the School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH), the University and the Community. The program director must also work effectively in collaborative partnership with other health professional degree program and school leaders to optimize the learning and work environment beyond the program as aligned with the mission, vision, values, and strategic pillars of the school.

The Program Director position is a .80-1.0 FTE (12-month appointment) both non-tenure or tenure track (rank commensurate with experience) academic faculty position in the Physician Assistant Program (Academic Affairs, SMPH). This position will be 1.0 FTE dedicated to academic and administrative responsibility, with the option of up to .20 dedicated to clinic or funded research, if interested and if program needs are met. The Program Director must be a licensed Physician Assistant (PA); as a PA, they must hold current, or emeritus, NCCPA certification and must not be the medical director. This position directly reports to the Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs or their designee in the School of Medicine and Public Health.

A diverse knowledge base and skill set are highly desirable, along with continued time in clinical practice or clinically related scholarship to maintain skills. This position supervises faculty and administrative staff, providing mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities while fostering a cohesive team environment across 3 campuses This role requires the individual to embody a strong sense of personal and professional integrity, and a high degree of cultural awareness and confidentiality, especially when engaging in sensitive situations with students. This position requires excellent interpersonal communication skills, excellent leadership and teaching skills, and a collaborative style to complement a team environment.

The Program Director must be highly familiar with all ARC-PA accreditation standards (5th ed.), including the and the ARC-PA accreditation process.

Responsibilities:

The Program Director has the following responsibilities:

Accreditation
- Oversee all aspects of accreditation and assure continuous self-improvement and full compliance with accrediting body
standards, as well as adhering to all policies and procedures.
- Continuous outcomes assessment and evaluation, including completion of ARC-PA accreditation application, self-study
report and site visits.

Curriculum
- Oversee educational equivalency for all curricular tracks, including 2 distant campuses and a hybrid track.
- Act as an effective liaison with other disciplines and organizations to ensure effective collaborations leading to a high
quality educational and clinical experience.
- Oversee curriculum planning, development, and implementation through close collaboration with program directors, faculty,
and staff.
- Evaluate curriculum to ensure it is meeting or exceeding the minimum standards for accreditation for all student cohorts.
Programmatic Responsibilities
- Maintain and advance the PA program's mission, vision, and values, consistent with School and University missions.
Ensure the program mission and vision are reviewed annually.
- Remain knowledgeable and responsible for:
- program organization
- program administration
- fiscal management and well-being of the program
- continuous programmatic review and analysis
- program planning
- program development
- completion of ARC-PA required documents
- adherence to the Standards and ARC-PA policies
- Accountable for annual Strategic Planning initiatives and documentation.
- Oversee operations related to structure and function of the program, particularly as it applies to internal committees and work
teams.
- Participate in the processes of:
- developing, reviewing and revising as necessary the mission statement, goals and
competencies, and learning outcomes of the program,
- participating in student recruiting efforts and selecting applicants for admission to the PA program,
- providing teaching and student instruction,
- evaluating student performance,
- academic counseling of students,
- assuring the availability of remedial instruction,
- designing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating the curriculum, and
- evaluating the program.

Supervision
- Supervise the medical director, principal and instructional faculty and staff in all activities that directly relate to the PA
program.
- Provide effective personnel supervision and support for all program faculty and staff. This includes:
- recruiting and retaining quality faculty and staff
- encouraging and supporting outstanding faculty teaching, scholarly activity, and community service
- working with faculty to determine faculty teaching, clinical, research, and committee responsibilities
- observing and evaluating individual faculty and staff performance within the program through annual performance
appraisals
- initiating promotion recommendations and recommending salary adjustments
- ensuring that faculty remain NCCPA certified, licensed in WI, and continue to develop professionally, based on the guidelines developed by the program
- Working with program staff to participate in professional development opportunities and self-advancement
- Provide management and leadership through responsiveness to issues related to personnel, strong communication skills,
and pro-active problem-solving to attain resolution according to policies and procedures.
- Communicate transparently, consistently, and effectively with supervisors, university administration, faculty, staff, and
students.

Outreach
- Participate in faculty development opportunities on a regular basis.
- Oversee student affairs activities including working effectively with committees and other SMPH and University units to
ensure that the logistics of enrollment, registration, financial aid, and assisting students toward successful program
completion.
- Identify and secure outside funding for innovative programming working collaboratively with others within and beyond the
program.
- Engages in service, community, and campus relations, and scholarly activities appropriate to the role of a program director
- Collaborate in interprofessional initiatives within the SMPH and across health professions.
- Participate in campus and community partnerships to enhance the education of PA students, to promote and strengthen the
PA Program, SMPH, and University.

Assist with other responsibilities, as directed

The chosen candidate will teach medical students, residents, and fellows.

The chosen applicant will participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

Required:
- 5 years clinical experience as a Physician Assistant.
- Minimum of 5 years full-time teaching in PA education at the time of appointment.
- Hold active, current or emeritus NCCPA certification.
- Working understanding of PA education standards (ARC-PA)
- Solid understanding of the role of PAs in delivery of high-quality health care.
- Periodic travel and participation in evening and weekend events and meetings will be required.

Preferred:
- 10 years of clinical experience as a Physician Assistant
- Demonstrated experience as a chairperson or program director of an ARC-PA accredited program.
- Experience in writing grants to support innovative program development.
- Experience with philanthropy
