As a Lead Application and Commissioning Technician, you will oversee commissioning in projects with low to medium complexity and guide Associate Commissioning Engineers and coordinating work with entry level staff. You will ensure that commissioning activities are completed efficiently and cost-effectively, in accordance with specifications, standards and safety requirements. This position is responsible for managing the pre commissioning, commissioning and warranty phase of applications in process industries, where variable speed drive and motor equipment packages are required. In addition, the successful candidate will also provide support in the late stages of project execution engineering, resolve field issues, and support the warranty phase of variable speed drive and motor systems. Further, you will articulate our commissioning and warranty processes to our customers. Your responsibilities

  • Lead Project Application and Commissioning Management: In this role you will lead commissioning / warranty / maintenance activities for assigned enclosed powertrain packaging projects. This will include reviewing the project execution's engineering, provide input on site activities schedules and plans, leading and executing site activities of all electrical equipment in scope, as well as closing out all project final documentation. You will also work with our service team to support the customers needs during the warranty and maintenance phase. You will support our internal commissioning quotation process covering technical and commercial aspects of proposals
  • Customer Relationships: You will establish and maintain effective customer relationships and ensure a positive customer experience throughout the pre-commissioning, commissioning, warranty and maintenance phases
  • Risk Management: You will identify risks and opportunities resulting from the project execution engineering review and prescribe how to best mitigate those risks through actions in coordination with the Project Execution team
  • Technical support: You will provide/coordinate any technical support request from site and coordinate within the Enclosed PowerTrain Packaging team a action plan to resolve customer issues
  • Site activities: You will lead site site activities and/or execute commissioning on all ABB supplied equipment, including third party supplied equipment You will execute performance testing to fulfill contractual obligations. You will provide basic training to operation staff. You will finalize all commissioning documentation at the conclusion, including correcting all redlined drawings and transferring finalized documentation and notices to the involved parties
  • Warranty: You will support the customer and service through all warranty related issues with a world class customer service attitude
Your background

  • Associate of Electrical Technology or equivalent and minimum 10 years experience in related areas, example, Project Engineering, Technical Support, Application Engineering, Test Engineering, Field Service, Commissioning required
  • Travel up to 60% required
  • Strong technical knowledge of medium and/or low voltage variable speed drive system equipment and applications and NFPA-70E, medium voltage safety, first aid, VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) commissioning, motor commissioning, MCC (Motor Control Center) commissioning, transformer commissioning, switchgear commissioning, protection relay commission, regional safety council training, TWIC card highly preferred
  • Teamwork and collaboration, commercial astuteness and demonstrable relationship building and communication skills, both written and verbal required
  • Results oriented mindset, structured and process orientated required
  • Ability to work independently in a deadline driven environment required
  • Intercultural Sensitivity & Effectiveness required
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
