As a leader on the Enterprise Shared Services Team, enable the technology organization to achieve delivery excellence through trusted test data and environment solutions. Enable software engineers to deliver value faster and create a world class engineering organization by taking a modern approach to our test data solutions, enabled with a focus on software engineering. The solutions offered by this area have a high impact across the internal NM Engineering Solutions Delivery (ESD) and enterprise teams, streamlining delivery for engineers across the organization. Key initiatives to include the Data De-Identification Program and Test Strategy Enablement.

Organization Summary

The Engineering Shared Services (ESS) vision as an integral part of NM's software delivery ecosystem though standardization, simplification and automation. We help teams accelerate delivery by solving problems that matter through innovative shared technology solutions and keeping NM's delivery running smoothly and ensure our teams are best positioned to do their jobs.


About the role:

  • Provide technical guidance and leadership to the team.
  • Establish, aggregate, and share team standards and standard practices across the team.
  • Mentor, guide and coach engineers within the team for job performance as well as technical and leadership growth.
  • Recruit, hire and onboard talent, ensuring the right mix of talent within team.
  • Manage team size / design and budget.
  • Ensure stability, functionality, and on-going improvement for the team's capabilities and service offerings.
  • Partner closely with NM's software, infrastructure, security, and data engineers throughout the company to deliver shared capabilities that align with NM's Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering or related field or equivalent experience
  • 6-8 years of professional experience required
  • 3-5+ years of experience working with modern engineering tools, languages and practices.
  • 2-5+ years of experience leading engineering teams including:
    • Growing engineering abilities in others.
    • Developing future engineering leaders.
    • Providing direct feedback and performance evaluations.
  • Strong understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle
  • Very strong understanding of DevOps
  • Proficiency with the design and development of software products.
  • Proven track record of successfully designing and delivering significant and impactful technology solutions.
  • Experience developing and leading solution delivery using agile methods.
  • Solid understanding of the organizations business functions, systems, and data.
  • Able to communicate and drive strong partnerships between product, engineering, and the business.
  • Ability to successfully communicate to both technical and non-technical audiences in varying forms and levels of detail.
  • Leading teams to collaboration.

Compensation Range:

Pay Range - Start:

$146,440.00

Pay Range - End:

$271,960.00

Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Positions in certain locations (such as California) may provide an increase on the standard pay structure based on the location.
