Job Summary:

Are you passionate about the arts? Join our team at the UW-Madison Division of the Arts as a Social Media Specialist! We're seeking a creative communicator who can manage our social media accounts and generate innovative content, showcasing the vibrant arts scene at UW-Madison. We need someone who is open to experimenting with new marketing strategies and has professional skills in social media management, content creation, and data analytics. As part of the Integrated Marketing and Communications Team, you'll play a vital role in engaging diverse audiences both on campus and beyond, increasing the impact of our programs and promoting all the arts UW-Madison has to offer.

The Division of the Arts is an administrative unit that reports to the Provost's Office. Led by Professor Chris Walker, the Division of the Arts advocates for, connects, and elevates the arts at UW-Madison. We support and promote the missions of the academic arts departments and affiliated partners, foster interdisciplinary collaborations, deepen the student experience, build community engagement, and advocate for inclusion, diversity, equity, and access across the arts.

Responsibilities: Contributes to strategy development and implements marketing projects in support of institutional or unit marketing goals.
  • 60% Develops, implements, and disseminates marketing materials through various communication mediums utilizing appropriate technologies and techniques
  • 20% Collects, analyzes, prepares, summarizes, and disseminates data and trends relevant to ongoing or future marketing activities

  • 20% Utilizes methods such as photography, graphic design, and/or video editing to create engaging content for social media
Tasks:
  • Writes, gathers, and creates content for the Division's social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, Threads, YouTube, and Twitter/X
  • Considers inclusion, diversity, equity, and access when developing content for various audiences.
  • Identifies trending topics on social media and participates as appropriate.
  • Maintains an editorial calendar for social media communications.
  • Updates online events calendars as needed.
  • Evaluates and reports quarterly on social media impact, such as follower growth, reach, engagement, and other metrics, assembles digital marketing reports monthly, and tracks ongoing metrics, advertising, and outreach efforts.
  • Ensures the appropriate marketing messages are conveyed clearly and delivered properly to identified audience segments.
  • Copy edits social media communications for clarity, grammar (using The Chicago Manual of Style), spelling, and ADA compliance.
  • Attends and reports on Division of the Arts events and other campus events for social media content, as assigned.

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree
Studies in Communications, Marketing, Digital Media, Communication Arts, Visual Communication, or related fields are a plus.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED
- Minimum one year experience executing targeted marketing and communications campaigns via digital channels
- Visual content creation skills using video, photography, graphic design, and/or professional or in-app tools
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on complex projects
- Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment
- Ability to track and analyze data analytics and to create reports
- Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

PREFERRED
- Experience communicating within established brand standards or developing a brand
- Demonstrated record of creating innovative digital media content
- Experience using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Fresco, Premiere, or After Effects
- Experience capturing photo and video content at live events
- Experience editing copy for clarity, grammar, spelling, and ADA compliance
- Experience using social media management software such as Sprout Social, or motivation to learn
- Experience using WordPress, MailChimp, or Eloqua, or motivation to learn

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
