Job Description

Oversees the day-to-day clinical and fiscal operations of the department. Serves as a role model by demonstrating leadership, decision-making, problem solving skills and clinical expertise. Revises and develop policies and procedures for the department. Perform respiratory care services as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct patient care as required and needed with census fluctuations. Reviews pre-admission inquiry documents as requested and as needed.
  • Plans and coordinates Shift Activities to ensure efficient, effective and safe patient care. Is active in planning and problem solving to ensure full coverage relative to patient acuity.
  • Collaborates with Directors of Patient Care Services, Business office and Infection Control Department in defining and implementing department goals, policies, procedures and standards of care.
  • Maintains an optimal level of productivity based on the coordination of an efficient staffing pattern. Responds to changes in volume of patient care assignments. Ensures and coordinates staffing needs for upcoming shift (s). Participates in recruitment efforts of respiratory therapists.
  • Provides and ensures that quality respiratory care is given to a culturally diverse patient population by completing QA monitoring logs and reporting outcomes to the IOP committee.
  • Promotes cohesiveness and cooperation among hospital staff by serving as liaison between staff members and physician, nurses and other health care personnel.
  • Provides orientation and ongoing in-service to staff, nurses and health care members.
  • Ensures the completion of routine maintenance and calibration of department equipment. Orders or designates ordering of rental equipment as necessary.
  • Performs product evaluation and helps purchasing department in purchasing cost effective and desirable Respiratory products.
  • Adheres to safe practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

1. Skill, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Must demonstrate strong leadership qualities and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Be proficient in the EMR Welsky within 90 days of hire.

2. Education: Completion of and approved two to four year respiratory therapy program with appropriate credentials.

3. Licensure:

  • Licensure by the State of Wisconsin is mandatory.
  • Maintain basic life support certification (CPR and ACLS).

4. Experience:

  • Must have 2 years or more Supervisory experience.
  • Three years critical care experience also required.
