In this role, you'll serve participants in the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Nutrition program West Allis, Greenfield and Cudahy Health Departments. You'll assess the nutritional needs of diverse participants and provide education, counseling, documentation and care plans that empower families to live fully and healthfully. You'll also provide breastfeeding education and support new mothers as their little ones start to grow. This full-time position requires completion of an Accredited Bachelor's and/or Master's program (beginning in 2024) in Dietetics, Nutrition or Foods and Nutrition, completion of an accredited internship and obtaining the credential Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) within one year of hire. We'd also love to hear from you if you're Dietetic Technician Registered (NDTR) at time of hire or within one year of hire, hold a nutritionist (masters or bachelor's degree in Nutritional Sciences, Community Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or Home Economics with an emphasis in nutrition), are a physician or physician's assistant certified by the National Committee on Certification of Physician's Assistants or certified by the state medical authority, or a state or local medically trained health official. Examples of Duties

  • Provide assessment, health education/counseling and referral assistance to maternal/child health population.
  • Use critical thinking to assess health data and dietary patterns of pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants and children up to age 5.
  • Use and apply evidence based nutrition interventions to counsel and education WIC participants.
  • Use and apply motivational interviewing skills in setting behavioral goals and actions to improve identified medical and nutritional risks to improve lifelong health outcomes. Documents education and care plan in WIC ROSIE system following established standards. Determines appropriate food package and issues WIC benefits.
  • Assesses and approves requests for medical nutritional foods from health care providers.
  • Signs off on requests for medical nutritional foods received as referral for WIC Community Health Nutritionist.
  • Oversight of high risk cases in WIC program of care provided by Community Health Nutritionist through referral process.
  • Promotes and educates about breastfeeding using evidenced based interventions
  • Performs duties of WIC Designated Breastfeeding Expert-assesses and initiates intervention, follow-up and referral to address complex breastfeeding situations.
  • Performs basic blood tests and takes height and weight measurements for women, infant and children as needed.
  • Screens for and initiates outgoing client referrals to community resources and healthcare providers.
  • Accesses and utilizes current references and resources as needed when educating WIC participants
Qualifications

  • Accredited Bachelor's and/or Master's program (beginning in 2024) in Dietetics, Nutrition or Foods and Nutrition, completion of an accredited internship and obtaining the credential Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) within one year of hire.
  • Experience delivering nutrition programming to groups or individuals: experience in Maternal Child Health and/or WIC desirable.
