Summary of Position: Provide financial advising services to current and prospective students using a variety of communication methods. Collaborate with college staff to support student success by connecting them to resources, support the implementation of student financial resource programs and provide technical assistance with awarding and tracking of financial aid awards.

This is a hybrid eligible position that would allow for 1 day a week working from home after the training period.
Essential Functions

1. Maintain and uphold the College values of Learning, Excellence, Accountability, Diversity, Student Success, Teamwork, Integrity, and Respect. Regular attendance is required.

2. Perform office function's which may include, but are not limited to: respond to internal/external customers and staff; create and modify documents, records, and reports using College standard software; maintain hard copy and/or electronic filing system; monitor inventory and budget information; schedule, coordinate, and prepare materials for meetings and/or appointments.

3. Complete all required College training and responsible for maintaining the skills necessary to complete the essential functions of the position as defined by the department.

4. Student Success is the cornerstone of Western's culture and the college may assign employees as needed to other areas or additional duties to foster this success.

5. Financial Advising Services - Supporting Action/Task May Include:

  • Engage in personal advising sessions via in person, phone, email or Zoom to assist students and parents through the entire financial aid process, provide emergency assistance and/or develop a financial plan
  • Refer students to the appropriate on-campus and external resources by determining student needs for services
  • Monitor caseload in order to maintain or increase number applying for and completing the FAFSA and other financial aid documents, including collaboration with career coaches for a proactive approach to assisting students with financial aid needs
  • Provide front counter customer service as needed

6. Program Management - Supporting Action/Task May Include:

  • Provide programming to students, parents, and faculty on financial resources (financial aid, emergency funding, and financial literacy)
  • Document and communicate with appropriate departments emergency funding awards
  • Responsible for data collection, recording, and maintenance for student financial services
  • Maintain a close working relationship college-wide for the timely processing of student awards
  • Provide first choice service to external and internal stakeholders

7. Technical Support - Supporting Action/Task May Include:

  • Document funding from federal, state, scholarship, social services and related agencies and financial institutions to facilitate the student eligibility process (3rd party funding)
  • Determine types and amounts of financial aid to be awarded through the packaging process according to federal, state and institutional requirements
  • Process Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) and Americorps information and update Fin Aid System with funding amounts
  • Assess and resolve issues with data imports and documentation
  • Determine and nominate tribal funding (BIA and WIG)


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
* Associate degree in related field OR
* Education combined with appropriate occupational experience in related field totaling 2 yrs OR
* Occupational experience in related field totaling 2 yrs.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Associate degree in Accounting, Business Management, or Finance
* 2 years' experience in related field

Special Instructions/About Western

This position reports to: Manager - Financial Aid Resources & Planning Services

Starting annual salary range based on education and experience: $21.95 - $27.45
