Job Description
Overview

Provides compassionate, culturally sensitive, holistic nursing care to patients in a clinical setting, supporting the Mercyhealth nursing mission, practice values and strategic plan. May include variable shifts, weekends, holiday and/or on-call hours. Performs other duties as assigned including floating to various units based on identified needs and clinical competency.


Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Utilizes the nursing process and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members in caring for patients.
* Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques, policies and procedures, standards of care, and State laws/practice act.
* Documents according to standards of care.
* Develops initiates and executes a patient plan of care according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or clinic policy including patient and family instruction.
* Participates in department or unit performance improvement activities, may include shared governance.
* Utilizes clinical expertise & guidance to other units/departments in support of the patient's longitudinal plan of care.
* Utilizes critical thinking in regards to patient safety and patient experience and appropriately escalates to the appropriate chain of command.
* Participates in unit/department nursing practice activities and decisions and peer review process.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Medical Assistant trained on the job for 5 years or completed such as training as Military Medic.

OR

Graduate of a medical assistant program accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), or graduate of a medical assistant program in a postsecondary school or college that has institutional accreditation by a regional accrediting commission or by a national accrediting organization approved by the U.S. Department of Education, or other programs that may qualify. Experience in clinic setting preferred.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days.

MA 2 Positions

Required current CMA certification through the AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants) or RMA certification through the AMT (American Medical Technologists) or CCMA (Certified Clinical Medical Assistant) through NHA (National Healthcareer Association) that have also completed the education requirements.

RN Clinic and Ambulatory RN's: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or smell. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
