Job Description

Summary:

Under the direction of the Medical Director Weight Management Program the Clinical Dietician performs a variety of services for Weight Management Patients to meet their nutritional needs. All essential functions in this position reflect the age specific needs of the patients.


Responsibilities:

Meets with patients in the Weight Management Program as well as other outpatients' to discuss diet modifications and nutritional counseling. Participates in the Weight Management Educational Groups. Confers with Medical Director regarding therapeutic diet problems and procedures.





Prepares individualized diets for home use and instructs patient's and/or significant other on the use of the diet.





Records pertinent information on patients* charts.





Confers with other members of the Weight Management Program and Behavioral Medicine on the development of any new programs or changes within the current programs. May participate in committees inter and intra-departmentally as assigned. Helps develop and participates in Weight Management patients' nutritional education. Helps in planning and developing new policies procedures and techniques.





May research topics on Weight Management as suggested by the Medical Director. Required to keep abreast of new developments in diet therapy and new products for use in diet therapy. Participates in continuing education activities provided by professional state and national organizations in order to maintain R.D. status.





Conduct group educational session on nutrition and diet for the patients' in the Cardiac Rehabilitation Center.





May participate in community education projects.





Maintains quality assurance safety environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies procedures and objectives.





Performs other related duties as required.





Performs all essential functions with consideration of the age-specific needs of the geriatric adult and adolescent patient. Fosters patient and family centered care and nutrition services in accordance with the Lifespan and The Miriam Hospital*s mission vision values with consideration of the life span including all developmental stages as well as cultural patterns.


Other information:

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:



Bachelor*s degree in Food and Nutrition or a related field.





Completion of a Dietetic Internship or equivalent preparatory.





Must be licensed in the state of Rhode Island and registered American Dietetic Association.





Maintenance of American Dietetic Association Registration through completion of 75 hours of continuing education every five years.





Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.





EXPERIENCE:



Eight weeks on-the-job training.





WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals physicians* offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises.





Any hazards are minimized or nullified by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions.





Working conditions are generally good exposed to normal patient care environment when visiting patients and meeting with other healthcare personnel.





Sits stands and walks intermittently throughout the day.





SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:



May be assigned technical or functional supervision of other healthcare or research staff affiliated with research project.





Supervision restricted to technical oversight guidance orientation and training.
