Covia is looking for a dynamic Maintenance Supervisor who will have a positive impact on the Operations team at its Fort Smith, AR location. The Maintenance Supervisor will supervise, schedule, and direct maintenance work and coordinate with other supervisors to accomplish daily maintenance requirements for mobile equipment, stationary equipment, plant buildings, and other facilities. The Maintenance Supervisor will report directly to the Maintenance Manager.

The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide Safety Leadership through regular safety inspections of all operating areas and reinforcing safe behaviors with all hourly employees, proper and consistent completion of SLAM evaluations, equipment pre-operational inspections, conduct regular safety meetings, and daily Toolbox Talks.
  • Ensure that all employees are aware of Local, State, and Federal Regulator requirements for compliance.
  • Strategic delegation of manpower to achieve the Planned Maintenance Program goals, follow planned schedule, and utilize manpower skill set.
  • Provide feedback, coaching and accountability to department personnel.
  • Communicate any request to change or modifying of planned schedule with Maintenance Manager for approval.
  • Utilize IFS for inputting Fault Reports, completion of Work Orders, and request for requisitions.
  • Evaluate maintenance personnel on a regular basis and share those evaluation with the Maintenance Manager.
  • Execute daily work from the weekly Maintenance schedule. Continually communicate with operations to coordinate equipment downtime needs to execute scheduled work.
  • Oversee maintenance related contracted work for job scope adherence and time management.
  • Distribute scheduled work orders to maintenance workers and oversee jobs from start to finish to assure quality and timely repairs are being performed.
  • Participate in weekly planning meeting
  • Ensure that all employees have the proper training to complete their assigned job during each shift, have the tools, equipment and PPE needed, and know how to safely utilize those items.
  • Work closely with the Maintenance Planner/Warehouse Associate to plan out jobs. This includes man hour estimates (task duration), material needs, and equipment needs.
  • Familiarization with spare parts, material location and availability.
  • Maintain open communications with subordinates, superiors, and peers, both verbally and by written report.

  • Recommend changes in standards, work methods and procedures to improve performance, productivity, and profitability.
  • Follow all company Purchasing Policies and Procedures for securing parts, goods or services from vendors or contractors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years of relevant maintenance experience required
  • Verifiable experience supervising or team leadership required
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's or Associates degree in a related field preferred
  • Experience with CMMS preferred
  • Kiln or Ball Mill experience preferred
  • Training in the following areas is preferred:
  • Industrial electricity & troubleshooting electrical control circuits
  • Replacing and troubleshooting electrical motors
  • Welding and metal fabrication
  • Industrial fluid power and pumping systems
  • Mechanical drives & power transmission
