The Body Shop Manager is a galvanizing leader that is responsible for running an efficient and profitable Paint & Body Shop. The Body Shop Manager operates the department efficiently, delivers excellent customer service and quality, controls costs, builds a loyal clientele, maintains good employee relationships, exceeds sales and profit objectives, and maintains service records.

Job Duties Include:

  • Forecasts goals and objectives for the department and strives to meet them.
  • Prepares and administers an annual operating budget for the body shop department.
  • Meets and exceeds quality and service standards for all customers.
  • Controls the performance of the department using various tools and resources
  • Ensures that customers' service files are up-to-date and are readily available for reference
  • Monitors repair order trends, such as number of repair orders completed, number of items per repair order, dollar sales per repair order, etc.
  • Maintains a positive and encouraging workplace.
  • Monitors technicians' payroll records
  • Trains, motivates, and monitors the performance of department staff.
  • Understands, keep abreast of, and complies with federal, state and local regulations that affect service operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA right-to-know, etc.
  • Breaks down estimates into labor and parts before the job is started so that repair technicians are aware of time allowances
  • Directs and schedules the work assignments of all department employees; provides technical assistance as needed.
  • Establishes and maintains good working relationships with customers.
  • Maintains good working relationships with insurance companies.
  • Meets or exceeds profitability goals.
  • Manages and controls costs.
  • Follow up on parts department orders to ensure parts availability
  • Addresses and resolves all customer complaints.

Requirements

Education:

  • High school diploma or the equivalent

Experience:

  • Body Shop management experience - automobile and/or heavy duty truck.
  • 3 -5 years of supervisory experience.
  • 3-5 years of body, collision, painting, and estimating experience.
  • Excellent communication and managerial skills.
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills.
  • Some sales experience helpful.
  • Professional personal appearance.
  • Ability to supervise and lead others.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands: Will be exposed to noise, vibration, paint, dust, exhaust fumes, and other hazardous and nonhazardous materials. Will move about the body service area and work with the body shop technicians.
