Job Description:

The School of Human and Protective Services at Madison College is hiring a Full-time Paramedic Instructor to start in the fall of 2024. Madison College is a comprehensive, open-access institution providing a high-quality education to a diverse population, including first-generation college students. We are seeking motivated and engaged candidates who share a willingness to collaborate with other faculty members, staff, students, and the community at large. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to the field and to teaching that will enable them to be a visionary and innovative member of the program.

The Full-time Paramedic Instructor will teach Paramedicine at the college level, with responsibilities such as crafting curriculum, creating engaging learning environments, employing modern teaching methods and technology, assessing student progress, providing guidance, maintaining records, and contributing to college-wide initiatives. The position may also involve serving as a lead instructor at various campus locations as needed for accreditation.

Reporting to the Dean of the School of Human and Protective Services, the Full-time Paramedic Instructor role requires dedication to academic excellence and active participation in departmental and institutional activities.

Full-time faculty work a nine-month contract for the academic year (Fall and Spring semesters), and teaching summer courses is optional, with additional pay. Essential Duties:

The following duties are typically expected of this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Facilitate student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to fit students' needs to support student engagement.
  • Evaluate student performance and provide regular feedback in courses taught by the instructor.
  • Contribute to student success and retention by advising students with course selection, career concerns, internships, and other matters.
  • Serve as an advocate for students and engages in activities that help students achieve their goals such as writing letters of recommendations, and/or helping students link with internships, service learning, job shadowing and other forms of networking.
  • Provide support to the program, the school, and the college by attending and engaging in events and meetings and participating fully within the team environment.
  • Continually revises curriculum to improve student learning.
  • Comply with college policies, directives, and work rules.
  • Continually improve teaching through professional development activities and the integration of new techniques and technology. This includes the development and implementation of individualized professional development plan.
  • Maintain a commitment to the college mission, vision, and values.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both written and verbally.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. This includes, but is not limited to, knowledge/experience with current educational methods/strategies such as learner-centered instruction, active learning, assessment, evaluation, collaborative techniques, and strategies aimed at closing the achievement gaps across race, gender, class, and disability.
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with diverse populations in a manner that promotes inclusion and celebrates diversity.
  • Desire and ability to teach courses at both the collegiate transfer and technical/occupational program levels.
  • Ability to communicate complex and difficult concepts and ideas to students with varied backgrounds and levels of preparedness.
  • Capacity to learn new and emerging technologies and incorporate them into the classroom and curriculum.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues on course and program promotion, direction, and innovation.


Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelors in any field.
  • Two (2) years (4,000) hours of paramedic work experience. Experience with or willingness to learn different modes of instruction (online, hybrid, Classroom Live, and modes of the future).
  • Licensed at the Paramedic level or higher in WI. Licensed as a WI EMS Instructor 2 (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire).


Tested/Equivalent Experience:
  • Associate degree in field and completion of Bachelor's degree in any field within three years of hire
  • Licensed at the EMT-Paramedic level, or higher in Wisconsin.
  • Licensed as a Wisconsin EMS Instructor II (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire)
  • Five (5) years or 10,000 hours of paramedic work experience
