Job Description

Major Responsibilities:

  • Competently performs basic to advanced radiologic procedures including general diagnostic, orthopedic exams, and potential DEXA Bone Density.
  • Communicates with patients to explain procedures, obtain clinical history, confirm acknowledgment of patients' understanding and address any questions or concerns.
  • Positions patients and selects exposure factors for various radiologic examinations and provides patient with radiation protection and safety in accordance with prescribed methods.
  • Identifies patient and labels images pertaining to the patient, compares requisitions to physician's orders to ensure exam accuracy, and processes images ensuring quality of radiographs and calls back patients as necessary.
  • Assists, communicates and consults with the physician(s). Works independently outside the department with providers.
  • Prepares and maintains records in accordance with various regulatory agencies and enters patient and study information into the radiology information system.
  • Serves as a technical resource, role model and/or preceptor for students and staff. Acts as a resource to staff at own facility and throughout the system. Assists with accreditation efforts.
  • Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.

  • Performs specimen handling for laboratory analysis.
  • Performs Venipuncture and collects other specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients according to established protocol. Obtains medical assistance when judged necessary.
  • Obtains specimens according to priority and scheduled draw times. Ensures completion of specimen collection functions according to protocol.
  • Ensures that specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing. Resolves specimen identification and/or requisition problems and clarifies requests.


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • * May be exposed to hazardous materials * May be exposed to life threatening diseases *Flexible in a changing environment * Ability to lift and/or move patients * Ability to work under stressful conditions * Able to make independent professional decisions * Travel between work assignments if necessary * Willingness to work overtime. * Responds positively to requests to work on short notice. * Flexible in start and end times * Must be able to travel to any of our 6 x-ray sites and work any shift or day.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.


Addendum: DEXA TECHNOLOGIST: * Proficient in operation of DEXA unit and in positioning all areas to be scanned according to protocol. * Review history from patient to ensure accurate information is obtained. * Analyze exam appropriately. * Archive daily, retrieve previous exams daily and perform all system backups weekly. * Submit to Radiologist with required paperwork. SURGICAL TECHNOLOGIST: * Proficient in the operation of the C-Arm and portable. * Determine appropriate technique based on anatomy * Documents patients on log sheet in the ASC and in log book in Radiology. * Print pictures per physician request. * Submit films to Radiologist for interpretation.
