Spotlight Programs Board

Georgia State University

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Student Life (Programs), the Coordinator, Student Engagement (Programs) serves as one of two advisors to Spotlight Programs Board, which is a university-sponsored, student programming board within the Student Life unit. Spotlight coordinates activities to enhance and enrich the quality of student life at Georgia State and addresses the needs and interests of the diverse student body by providing social, cultural, educational, and entertainment events on the Atlanta campus. In addition to the undergraduate student executive board, there are multiple Graduate Admin. Assistants in the Spotlight office and the Coordinator will supervise the GAA responsible for the Arts & Culture committee, including management of the Gallery Lounge space within the Student Center.

This position will advise, mentor, and develop a 7-member student executive board in the program operations of the Spotlight office and all of its associated programs along with the Assistant Director, directly advising three of the program committee chairs on the board and indirectly supporting the other committee chairs, as needed. In addition to their Spotlight advising role, staff may also assist with other large-scale programs coordinated by Student Life and may on occasion advise student leaders in registered student organizations (RSOs) on event planning processes, as needed.

Night and weekend commitments occur at least 2-3 times per month during the academic year, less often during the summer months. As an advisor, staff may accompany or transport students to off-campus programs, retreats, or conferences.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

* Advise, promote, coordinate, and evaluate ongoing social programs and activities, on- and off-campus, with a primary focus on campus event programming; seek out opportunities for collaboration within the university department, student organizations, and other local constituents in the implementation of program plans.

* Assist Spotlight Programs Board executive board members in developing communication and marketing plans that define and promote the Spotlight brand to internal and external audiences. Plans will integrate public relations, advertising (broadcast, web, print, social media), and promotions and ensure a high degree of quality and consistency across all delivery mediums.

* Work directly with students in the creation and implementation of programming events for a diverse campus community and to encourage student advocacy.

* In collaboration with the Assistant Director, manage the Spotlight program budget funded by student activity fees. Attend to all contract processing requirements and operate ahead of deadlines.

* Encourage planning a program calendar that extends well beyond the next semester ahead.

* Collaborate as an active member of the Student Life team and actively participate in collaboration planning groups within Student Engagement, Student Success, and the University.

Qualifications:

Minimum Hiring Qualifications:

Master's degree and two years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling, or related degree

* Experience as an advisor of a student activities or student programming board in a collegiate setting

* Demonstrated experience in working with diverse populations of university students.

* Experience maximizing the use of organization management software such as Engage, Collegiate Link, or CampusGroups as a communication and marketing tool to promote campus activities. Also a working knowledge of various social media platforms.

Able to sustain communication with diverse groups, anticipate problems, reconcile conflicts, and maintain a strong philosophical basis for student activities.

* Outstanding leadership, management, interpersonal, and project planning skills to relate and work with a variety of faculty, students, parents, staff, and community members.

* Willingness to work in a team-oriented and collaborative environment.

* Must have the ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects and activities, make effective use of resources, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision required.

* Ability to be adaptable, resourceful, and creative in their approaches to unique problems while prioritizing delivery of superior customer service.
