Job Summary:

The Department of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health is seeking a PhD to serve as Director of the Histocompatibility Laboratory for the Division of Transplantation. Appointment will be at a level consistent with the successful candidate's experience and track record of accomplishments in service, education, and academic activities.

The University of Wisconsin Histocompatibility Laboratory is integrated into the UW Health Transplant Center. It is an internationally recognized and ASHI-accredited laboratory. The high-volume laboratory provides services for one of the largest solid organ transplant programs in the country, in addition to supporting the Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation (HCT) program. The laboratory offers a full range of histocompatibility procedures to support the needs of our University of Wisconsin patients as well as national and international clients.

The UW Division of Transplantation is one of the world's leading organ transplant programs, and has been on the forefront of transplant advancement since its creation in 1966. Surgeons and scientists in the Division of Transplantation have made innovative discoveries that are used throughout the world. The UW Health Transplant Center is one of the most experienced transplant programs in the nation. More than 20,000 organs have been transplanted at UW in in the past 58 years, including adults, pediatrics and serving the Veteran's Hospital. University of Wisconsin Organ and Tissue Donation is recognized as one of the most successful organ procurement programs in the nation. As a result, our patients have among the shortest waiting times for organ transplants.

Responsibilities:

The Director of the Histocompatability Lab will have an appointment in the School of Medicine and Public Health within the Division of Transplantation of the Department of Surgery. The Director will collaborate with the laboratory management team to facilitate pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases of laboratory testing while also identifying innovative opportunities to add value to care. The chosen applicant will participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members

Qualifications:

Candidates must have at least 2 years full-time post-doctoral laboratory training or experience in immunology, histocompatibility, immunogenetics, or a related field, or a residency in clinical or combined anatomic/clinical pathology or other related medical specialty is required. In addition, at least 2 years of full-time post-doctoral training in directing or supervising high complexity testing in human histocompatibility and immunogenetics in an ASHI-accredited or approved laboratory is required (relevant pre-doctoral training will also be considered in lieu of post-doctoral experience). At least 1 year of experience in human histocompatibility testing services in support of solid organ and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation with an emphasis on molecular HLA testing and test development is preferred.

Candidates must have completed a Transplant Immunology and Immunogenetics fellowship, be board certified or eligible by the American Board for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ABHI) or equivalent and be an accredited Histocompatibility Laboratory Director by the ASHI-DTRC.

For an appointment at Associate Professor or Professor rank on CHS Track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the CHS Track

Milwaukee can be reached in just over an hour while Chicago is just two hours away, giving travelers access to two international airports and a regional airport with direct flights to over 250 destinations combined.
