POSITION PURPOSE:
Under the supervision of the Chief Building Inspector, performs plan examinations, inspections, and code enforcement on all types of structures including residential, commercial, and industrial in securing compliance with city building, zoning, and related codes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:
Minimum of an Associate's Degree in Building Construction or HVAC. Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering or Architecture preferred. Or a combination of education and experience may be accepted.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Possess a minimum of three (3) years experience as a Commercial Building Inspector.
Ability to read and interpret building construction plans and specifications and to recognize deviations from such plans in the construction process.
Ability to recognize faulty construction or hazardous conditions created by deterioration.
Knowledge of the materials, methods, and techniques used in building construction.
Knowledge of ordinances, laws and regulations relative to building construction and maintenance.
Ability to enforce regulations firmly, tactfully, and impartially.
Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, orally, and in writing.
Knowledge and ability to efficiently work with computers and Microsoft software.
Must possess a valid Wisconsin driver's license and have both a good driving record and reliable transportation.
Possess a State of Wisconsin Certification as a Uniform Dwelling Code Construction and HVAC Inspector.
Possess a State of Wisconsin Certification as a Commercial Building Inspector.

Air-conditioned office environment.
Possible exposure to inclement weather while performing inspections.
EQUIPMENT USED:
Copy machine, computer terminal and keyboard, fax machine, telephone, camera, miscellaneous office equipment, and motor vehicle.
