Job Summary:

The University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC) seeks a thoracic medical oncologist, with a cancer research focus to join our faculty. Health services or clinical trial research is desired and priority areas include genomics, precision medicine and cancer therapeutics. Interest in cellular therapy is also considered. This position is active in multi-disciplinary thoracic oncology programs and Disease Oriented Team leadership is available. This is a clinical health services (CHS) opportunity (academic clinician) for prospects seeking a Professor, Associate Professor or Assistant Professor position.

The Division of Hematology, Oncology, and Palliative Care at UW-Madison includes 60 faculty, 32 Advanced Practice Providers, and 16 Fellows. The division's faculty leads cutting-edge basic, translational and clinical research programs. This research encompasses cancer biology, cancer prevention, screening and treatment, as well as survivorship and palliative care for patients impacted by solid tumors, benign and malignant hematologic conditions and those requiring stem cell transplant or cellular therapies.

The successful candidate will participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members, advanced practice providers and other clinical and administrative staff.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will provide direct patient care, lead dedicated disease-specific research
staff and have access to substantial programmatic research funds. Clinical research is conducted in
the UWCCC by 18 multi-disciplinary Disease Oriented Teams and is supported by the UWCCC Clinical
Research Office. Over 170 UWCCC investigators regularly enroll patients to therapeutic intervention
trials at our two UWCCC clinical sites.

Responsibilities of the candidate will include clinical duties, research, the teaching of medical students, residents and fellows, and potential outreach service activities. Duties include:

- 60-65% direct patient care at UW Health's main campus, including ambulatory, inpatient
and consult service attending
- Proactively supporting efforts to improve diversity in clinical trial participants
- 35-40% protected time to develop and teach a research or education program and to
engage in related scholarly activity.
- The primary clinical practice will include inpatient, consult and ambulatory care at UW Hospital and Clinic locations.

The candidate will have also access to many shared resources and opportunities to collaborate with
basic, translational and clinical researchers at the NCI-designated UW Carbone Cancer Center
(UWCCC), the VA Hospital and throughout the UW-Madison campus. Administrative duties including
e-Consults, committees and community service may be added as appropriate to the interests of the
successful candidate.

Education:

Required
Terminal Degree
MD/DO. Must be Board Certified in Internal Medicine and BE/BC in Medical Oncology or Hematology Oncology.

Qualifications:

Experience in clinical, basic science or translational research, with a track record of successful publications in peer reviewed journals, strong written and verbal communication skills, commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, evidence of excellence in teaching and current or high potential to obtain extramural funding. Through these efforts, the ability to enhance national recognition for our division and the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center.

For appointment at Associate Professor on the Clinical Health Services (CHS) track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate Professor on the Clinical Health Services (CHS) track.

License/Certification:

Required
ABIM - American Board of Internal Medicine Certification
Completion of an accredited fellowship training program in Medical Oncology or Hematology/Medical Oncology, with clinical trial or health services research experience.

Eligible or licensed to practice medicine in Wisconsin
Candidates for associate or full professor rank must meet criteria for appointment at rank per UW School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines.

Applicants for this position will be considered for the titles listed in this posting. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist.

Total compensation targets AAMC benchmarks by rank.

This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.
