PURPOSE
Assist the design team in the design, development, evaluation, prototyping and manufacturing preparation
of new products as well as improvements to existing products . Achieve this through fabrication,
assembly, installation, testing and troubleshooting of prototype designs and product improvements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Fabricate and assemble conceptual layouts, prototypes, fixtures and test stands as required.
Attend field trips to install/troubleshoot prototype and/or service engineering field models or other products
and interface/train representatives and customers as required. Occasional overnight trips will be required .
Support all phases of engineering to ensure projects run smoothly and target dates are met .
Assist in brainstorming and idea generation exercises in the development of new products .
Confer with design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods are
developed. Produce fixture designs as required and participate in training of production employees as
required.
Assist in maintenance of shop by maintaining shop and test equipment and purchasing shop supplies . In
addition, ensure that products requiring certification are kept current .
Work with both internal and external suppliers and vendors to evaluate specifications , coordinate
purchasing and receipt of engineering components and materials.
Assist in development of installation and troubleshooting documentation for the product installation and
owner's manual.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Assist in achieving Division goals through design contributions in developing new products and product
improvements.
Produce test fixtures and monitor testing.
Ensure timely completion of prototype projects as established .
Fabricate production fixtures as required and assist in production start up .
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Computer proficiency to include the use of word processing , spreadsheet and email software.
Ability to travel to support sales, customers and suppliers.
Ability to safely operate a fork lift .
Ability to read and understand blueprints/drawings.
Ability to troubleshoot basic electrical and mechanical problems .
Ability to perform steel welding using basic techniques .
Ability to drive the engineering truck .
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Must possess a high school diploma or GED and 2-3 years related experience. Must be proficient with
welding, cutting, machining, forming, and have electrical aptitude, computer capabilities (windows), and
ability to read blueprints & Engineering Bill of Materials. A working understanding of manufacturing
practices and associated costs, industrial electronics, fluid systems, power train systems, product
knowledge and word processing/spreadsheet capabilities is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions , short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write
simple correspondence such as test reports, field reports, etc. Ability to effectively present information in
one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts , interest, commissions, proportions,
percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry .
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variet y of variables in situations where only limited
standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written , oral, diagram, or
schedule form.

perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts .
The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles;
outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock , and vibration. The noise
level in the work environment is usually moderate .
