Job Summary:

The Director of Organizational Learning and Simulation oversees the development and implementation of the strategy and all activities of the Organizational Learning and Simulation Department. This role is responsible for partnering with clinical and other leaders to ensure that clinical education, including simulation, is aligned with desired clinical outcomes, competencies, and future clinical models across the system. This role reports to the Chief Learning and Organization Development Officer.


The Director is responsible for:

*Leading the development of a clear and innovative strategy for leveraging learning to support desired clinical results

*Working with clinical leaders to ensure that proper needs assessments are conducted for learning and human performance initiatives, including simulations

*Confirming that learning experiences and curriculums are well-designed, using evidence-based, learner-centric design methodologies, and meet learning and performance objectives of the clinical organization

*Working with the learning technology team to ensure learning utilizes a variety of innovative methods to meet the needs of team members in a variety of clinical settings across the growing healthcare system.

*Ensuring learning is effectively evaluated at Levels I, II, III, IV, and V where appropriate

The Director oversees the planning, design, deployment and evaluation of curriculums and educational programs, ensuring excellent execution at all levels of the department. The Director ensures consistent application of learning and performance standards across the organization. This role is responsible for bringing in innovative ideas that move learning and human performance forward.

Strategy: The Director plays a strategic role, reporting to the Chief Learning and Organization Development Officer and working with nursing and other clinical leaders to identify skills needed for the organization to deliver the clinical strategy, and to deliver learning experiences that support team members in successfully performing their duties.

Analytics: The Director is tasked with implementing appropriate metrics for measuring the effectiveness and efficiency of learning. The role will ensure that metrics are monitored and used to continuously improve the results of the learning and simulation department. The Director will share the metrics and scorecard with other leaders to ensure results are understood and aligned with clinical needs.

Collaboration: This role is responsible for building positive working relationship with chief nursing officers, nursing directors, patient safety, other clinical leaders and human resources colleagues in order to proactively move opportunities forward and to resolve issues effectively. With colleagues in other areas, such as EPIC and leadership development, the Director will collaborate on the design, development, and deployment of other learning initiatives as needed.

The Director is also a mentor to leaders in the learning and simulation department, ensuring continuous development of their professional skills, and preparing them to proactively thrive during organizational change.

Knowledge & Innovation: The Director is tasked with the maintenance of knowledge in the organizational learning and simulation department. In this position, the Director stays up to date with the latest instructional technologies through the establishment of personal networks, attendance of workshops, reviewing of professional publications, and participation in professional industry associations. The Director is responsible for introducing the latest and most applicable trends in training and development for inclusion in the overall strategy.

The Director is tasked with staying up to date on the organization's clinical strategy and initiatives, clinical innovations, new models of care, patient satisfaction results and team member engagement results in order to support the implementation of new innovations and provide optimal guidance to the organizational learning and simulation team.

Other duties:

*Develops and implements departmental policies and procedures to facilitate comprehensive, effective and coordinated educational programming and practices

*Leads/participates in regularly scheduled department meetings

*Develops budget and monitoring system. Performs assigned job functions in a fiscally responsible manner and in accordance with system and departmental policies and procedures regarding business practices

*Provides essential information to leaders on the impact of learning on the attainment of organizational goals

*Leads organizational initiatives to enhance performance, create the desired culture, and resolve issues

*Approves and/or hires, coaches, counsels and releases team members as appropriate to ensure effective team and organizational dynamics

Licensure and Education:

*Current state of Wisconsin Registered Nurse License or multi-state nursing license from a participating state in the Nurse Licensure Compact

*Master's Degree in Human Performance, Organization Development, Nursing Education, or related field

*Board certification in Nursing Professional Development is preferred

Experience:

*Minimum of 7 years of experience leading teams of people, with progressively increasing responsibilities

    *Minimum of 10 years in nursing, preference for experience in an Academic Medical Center
