Job Summary:
The Director of Nursing is responsible and accountable for the overall management of nursing practice, nursing education, professional development, nursing research, and nursing services within specific clinical department(s) and/or ambulatory environment. The Director of Nursing position represents the needs of professional nursing as a member of the hospital's management team, and is a leader in the operational effectiveness of the hospital. The Director of Nursing participates as a leader in strategic planning of the hospital, ambulatory services and the provision of nursing care both house wide and for specific clinical department(s). The Director of Nursing participates with the CNO to develop strategic priorities, oversee program development, define fiscal parameters, and prioritize agendas for nursing and patient care. Other duties as assigned.

Other information:

  • EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION: Three to five years clinical nursing experience in acute hospital care is required. Previous leadership experience required at least at the supervisor level.
  • EDUCATION DESCRIPTION: Bachelor's and Master's Degree is required. a. Either a bachelor's or masters degree must be nursing. b. If masters degree is not in nursing, graduate degree must be in associated field (e.g. Management, Organizational Leadership, Education, Business)
  • SPECIAL SKILLS DESCRIPTION: Knowledge of nursing theory, practice and management to oversee planning and implementation and evaluation of patient care within more than one geographic unit. Demonstrates effective communication skills and promotes open communication on all levels. Analytical abilities necessary in order to evaluate nursing care delivery, respond to deficiencies by identifying and implementing appropriate corrective action, develop and implement sound policies, procedures and budgets. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for up to 80% of work time when involved in activities such as preparing documentation, reports and budgets, interacting with staff and patients, and responding to correspondence.
  • LICENSURE DESCRIPTION: Requires current state of Wisconsin Registered Nurse License or Multi-state Nursing License from a participating state in the NLC (Nurse Licensure Compact).
