Role & Responsibilities:

  • Performs internal audits and special projects of significant and complex areas of Children's Wisconsin and provides the results of the audits to organizational leadership

  • Identifies key risks for the area or activity through the research as well interviews with management and staff

  • Determines the significant controls to test and develops a methodology to effectively test the controls. Documents the tests in an Audit Program.

  • Creates documentation to support the results of testing and to facilitate the evaluation of the effectiveness of the controls

  • Performs evaluation of controls identifying any deficiencies in the controls

  • Prepares a report to organizational leadership addressing the results of the testing

  • Provides input related to organizational risks to facilitate development of the Compliance and Audit work plans

  • Regularly participates in a variety of special projects to improve management systems or processes

  • Coordinates and assists in activities of outside audit firms and agencies to ensure efficient use of internal and external resources

  • If applicable, leads the audit activities of Internal Auditors

  • Exhibits guiding behaviors that reflect Children's Wisconsin values and support our mission and vision

Education:

  • Bachelors Degree required. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting preferred.

  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or Certified Public Accounting (CPA) certification preferred

Skills & Experience:

  • Five years of audit experience, or 3 years audit experience and a CPA in order to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of policies, procedures, operating systems and skills necessary to effectively conduct audits.

  • Knowledge of health care industry and issues desirable.

  • Requires specialized knowledge of auditing principles, procedures and a knowledge of accounting and computer systems, policies, procedures.

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to ensure that policies and procedures are being followed consistently in order to safeguard the Company's assets, verify the accuracy and reliability of its accounting data, and promote adherence to the prescribed policies, resulting in recommendations that add value for process improvements throughout all areas of the organization.

  • Exhibits excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate with all levels of management and staff

  • Shows a strong ability to plan and perform assignments in an independent manner without specific instruction from departmental leadership
