Job Summary:

Under the general direction of the Department of Anesthesiology Associate Director, the Research Program Manager will oversee the Department of Anesthesiology's research program. The incumbent will develop a thorough knowledge of the department's research activities, including basic science, translational and clinical trials, and the policies and procedures governing sponsored research. In addition, the incumbent will serve as a member of the department's management team and is expected to develop a working understanding of the department's personnel, fiscal management and clinical activities.

Responsibilities: Plans and leads operational, outreach, and promotional activities of a research program and serves as a subject matter expert.
  • 40% Plans and directs the day-to-day operational activities of one or multiple research programs or units according to established research objectives in alignment with strategic plans and initiatives
  • 10% Assists in the development, coordination, and facilitation of trainings and workshops for internal and external audiences to disseminate research program developments and information
  • 10% Plans, develops, and implements processes and protocols to support research aims
  • 10% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 15% Serves as a unit liaison and subject matter expert among internal and external stakeholder groups, collaborates across disciplines and functional areas, provides program information, and promotes the accomplishments and developments of scholars and research initiatives
  • 10% Monitors program budget(s) and approves unit expenditures
  • 5% Develops policies, procedures, and institutional agreements on behalf of the program

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree
Preferably in a science, business or health related field.

Masters preferred

Qualifications:

-More than four years of progressively increasing responsibilities in budgeting, clinical research administration, fiscal management and reporting
-Previous research management experience in an academic setting, including pre-and post-award responsibilities for NIH, NSF, DOD and private foundation granting agencies
-Experience in all aspects of clinical research including budgeting, set-up, compliance and close out
-Proven track record as an independent team leader using initiative and good judgment
-Strong written and verbal communication skills
-Knowledge of government regulations and guidelines with respect to human subjects research and familiarity with available institutional and public resources
-Experience with writing, set-up, conduct, and close-out of IRB protocols and associated records
-Experience developing and managing budgets, tracking expenses, and research billing compliance

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Minimum $85,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

Additional Information:

The selected applicant will be responsible for ensuring eligibility for employment in the United States on or before the effective date of the appointment. University sponsorship is not available for this position.
