The CHW Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Program bridges the gap between clinical language and technical (coding) language through concurrent chart review to promote clear, concise, complete, and compliant documentation. The goal is to improve documentation to result in accurate reporting of the Severity of Illness (SOI) and Risk of Mortality (ROM) and to identify and resolve situations in which diagnosis documentation is in need of more specificity. CHW Clinical Documentation Specialists are Registered Nurses with pediatric clinical expertise who also have a working knowledge of CMS documentation requirements. They are responsible for drafting queries in the form of shared progress notes in EPIC and assigning them to providers to respond to in an effort to more accurately capture the diagnoses and complexity of care.

Essential Functions and Minimum Requirements

  • Requires a professional level of knowledge in the field of nursing. Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred (BSN). Current license to practice nursing in Wisconsin (RN).

  • Two years inpatient pediatric nursing experience. Pediatric critical care background preferred.

  • EPIC experience is required.

  • Experience in clinical documentation preferred. Knowledge of federal, state and private payer regulations

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to confidently interact with clinical providers, both one-on-one and presenting information to groups.

  • Proficiency in organization and planning. Understanding of organizational policies and procedures.

  • Working knowledge of quality improvement theory and practice preferred. Ability and willingness to seek out and accept change.

  • Demonstrates adaptability and self-motivation by staying abreast of rules and regulations and incorporating those changes into daily practice.

This will be a fully remote position working day-time hours. The individual can start work between 6-8AM each day.
