Job Summary:

Each summer UW-Madison hosts several youth camps. UHS is seeking energetic registered nurses to join us in supporting the youth camp programming at UW-Madison, May 2024 through August 2024. This position is scheduled overnight shifts (11pm-7am), including every other weekend.

The Youth Camp Night Nurse position works as part of a health care team to support the wellness of minors participating in residential (overnight) camps on the UW Madison campus. Supporting the campers, interacting with campus partners and perhaps interacting with camper's families/guardians, Youth Camp Nurses help create a memorable experience for campers.

Responsibilities: Provides professional nursing care to patients through assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation to ensure physical and mental well-being.
  • 70% Provides care to individuals within a specialized area of medicine to ensure physical and mental well-being
  • 20% Evaluates current care plans, completes assessments, develops specialized treatment plans, documents medical activity, and analyzes patient data and results to help diagnosis and treat illnesses and diseases
  • 5% Educates patients and their support systems on how to manage conditions and to promote the health and well-being of patients and those around them
  • 5% May provide expertise, training, and guidance to the community, peers, and/or students

Education:

Required
Associate's Degree or Bachelor's degree in nursing

Qualifications:

- Proficient in medication administration and documentation
- Knowledgeable in needs of pediatric and adolescent population
- Competent in the use of a computer
- Ability to communication effectively with campers and staff

License/Certification:

Required
RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure And/Or Compact State Licensure
Must be licensed as a nurse in the state of Wisconsin.

BCLS - Basic Life Support
Current Healthcare Provider BCLS/CPR

Work Type:

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Appointment Type, Duration:

Terminal, 3 month appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding

Salary:

Minimum $34.00 HOURLY
Depending on Qualifications

Additional Information:

Youth Camps run from early June through early August. Applicants must be available for an in-person HR orientation on ONE of the following dates:

Monday, April 15th; 9am-4pm
Wednesday, April 24; 9am-4pm
Wednesday, May 8th; 10am-5pm
Friday, May 24; 9am-4pm
Tuesday, May 28; 12:30pm-8:30pm

Applicants must also be available for department training during the first week of June 2024.

Holidays (4th of July) and weekends are required. Due to camp needs, no time off requests can be granted June 16-June 30.
