Job Summary:

This position performs technical responsibilities in support of the central supply and operating rooms of UW Veterinary Care (UWVC). Make a real difference in patients' and their owners' lives!

Responsibilities:

Tasks:
  • Oversees and assures that high quality nursing care is administered and maintained in the primary care of animal patients.
  • Independently oversees and/or directs professional veterinary students and new technical staff in patient care and area responsibilities.
  • Monitors veterinary student participation in daily operating schedules, initiates changes and lends assistance when needed.
  • Contributes to the instructional needs of the teaching hospital.
  • Assists supervisor in problem solving activities and administrative tasks.
  • Responsible for participating in special projects, area problem solving activities and administrative tasks.
  • Responsible for equipment maintenance, repair and ordering and review of facility maintenance needs in area.
  • Participates and understands the importance of working as a team member within the hospital structure (i.e. communication with supervisors and faculty for enhancing productivity and quality patient care).
  • Demonstrates good interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate proposed ideas and solutions.
  • Participates in other technical and support duties as assigned.
  • Working flexible, on call hours and variable shifts as required by the hospital.

Required
H.S. Diploma

Qualifications:

Requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. independently and physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks.

To qualify for Level 1: Entry level, new CVT grad or awaiting to sit for the CVT exam, or some CVT working experience with no specialization.

To qualify for Level 2: Generally over 3 years of veterinary tech experience, may substitute years of experience for specialization.

To qualify for Level 3: Veterinary Tech Specialist (VTS), or highly qualified and specialized in a specific area, may have prior experience from another university hospital.

License/Certification:

Preferred
CVT - Certified Veterinary Technician
or eligible to obtain Wisconsin licensure within 12 months

Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday 9:15am-6:00pm (45 min lunch)

Variable night, holiday, weekend, and on-call shifts as required by the hospital.

Full Time: 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $18.00 HOURLY
Depending on Qualifications
Sign-on Bonus of 5% of base pay (based on FTE) to be paid over the first year of employment (Minimum of $1,800+ for Veterinary Technicians)!
