Job/Internship Description

The City of Waukesha, Department of Public Works, Engineering Division, is seeking innovative Civil engineering students to assist with design, development and construction of a wide range of municipal projects from conception through to completion. You will gain valuable real-world experience, contribute toward a healthy economy and make a lasting positive impact to society.

Job Type: Limited term - Non benefit eligible position

Pay: $20.06 per hour with a $1.00 per hour increase after the first completed work term.

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift (M-F, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm)
  • Approximately 40 hours per week
Terms:
  • Co-op Option* - Winter 2024 & Summer 2024,
  • Intern Option - Summer 2024

*You Must be enrolled in your University's Co-Op program to qualify for the Co-Op Option above.

The tasks of a co-op/intern are diverse; on any given day our co-op students could be working on the following types of activities:

  • roadway design,
  • utility (stormwater, sanitary) design,
  • survey, staking,
  • or construction inspection of municipal projects for compliance with plans and specifications.
Co-ops/interns receive extensive training and mentorship throughout their work terms, and they are highly regarded and sought after upon graduation. Co-ops/interns work side-by-side with project managers, engineers and technicians on projects.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in an accredited post-secondary engineering program
  • Enrollment in your university's Co-op program
  • Proven oral and written communication skills
  • Responds to change as a positive challenge
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as a team
  • Ability to expand and improve problem solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word,Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Reliable and dependable
  • Excellent driving record with a valid driver's license
  • Knowledge of design and visualizations software such as AutoCAD,Civil 3D preferred, but not required
  • Negative result on pre-employment testing
  • Understand and follow instructions
