Work Schedule:

This is a full-time, 100% FTE salaried position. The scheduled shifts are primarily Monday-Friday day shifts with some off shifts and weekends. Hours may vary based on the needs of the department. You will work on-site primarily at University Hospital located in Madison, WI.

We are seeking a Registered Nurse to:

  • Provide clinical expertise and support to nursing staff primarily at University Hospital, our level one trauma center, with a focus on inpatient bone marrow transplant and hematology in the adult population.
    • Areas of inpatient support include the Hematology, Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplantation and Palliative Care Unit (B6/6) with a focus on hematology and bone marrow transplant. You will work in partnership with our oncology CNS.
    • Areas of outpatient support include the Carbone Cancer Center located within University Hospital and future hematology/BMT support for the Eastpark Medical Center (opening in the fall of 2024).
  • Implement customized evidence-based advanced nursing interventions, including the provision of direct care, to improve nurse-sensitive outcomes.
  • Act as a clinical expert for specific clinical populations; two years of inpatient hematology or bone marrow transplant experience is strongly preferred.

Education:

Clinical Nurse Specialist:

  • Minimum - Master's or doctoral degree in Nursing.
  • Preferred - Master's (MSN) or doctoral degree (DNP or PhD) with CNS role focus.

RN-Nurse Specialist:

  • Minimum - BSN and Must obtain Master's degree in Nursing or doctoral degree (DNP) in relevant specialty within five (5) years of start date in the Nurse Specialist position.
  • Preferred - Master's (MSN) or doctoral degree (DNP or PhD) within 6 months of start date.

Work Experience:

Clinical Nurse Specialist:

  • Minimum - Two years of relevant clinical nursing experience.
  • Preferred - Three years of relevant clinical nursing experience, previous experience as a clinical nurse specialist, experience in an academic medical center.

RN-Nurse Specialist:

  • Minimum - Three years of relevant clinical nursing experience
  • Preferred - Previous experience as a nurse specialist and/or nurse working in an expanded role and experience in an academic medical center.

Licenses and Certifications:

Minimum:

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of WI or holds a license issued by a jurisdiction that has adopted the nurse licensure compact.
  • CPR/BLS Certification

Preferred:

  • Certification in specialty area of practice. CNS certification.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Clinical knowledge and skills with the patient population of the clinical areas of the position.
  • Knowledge of the evidence-based practice process.
  • Knowledge and experience documenting patient care in an electronic medical record.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to make knowledgeable clinical assessments and judgments.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to educate staff, patients, and families.
  • Demonstrates effective and respectful communication with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
  • Ability to facilitate multidisciplinary resolution of issues.
  • Demonstrates ability to maintain patient and family privacy and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates competence within a continuum of professional development from advanced beginner to expert practitioner.

Physical Requirements:

Medium: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting/and or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
