As a member of the healthcare team, the Coding Specialist I will support the importance of accurate, complete and consistent coding practices for the production of quality healthcare data. The Coder I should be proficient in coding diagnostic outpatient and emergency room cases applying the correct ICD-9/ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, and CPT codes and modifiers and strive for optimal reimbursement. The Coding Specialist I will have the ability to float to different coding areas as needed within these defined case types. This position may also support the thorough review of emergency department documentation to validate/adjust the ED E/M level and post charges for any billable procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school education. Health Information Technology degree preferred.

  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Coding Associate (CCA) credential must be obtained within 12 month of hire.

  • Hospital or medical facility coding experience in an acute care environment preferred.

  • Requires excellent verbal and written skills to facilitate communications with medical staff, peers, management and other hospital personnel.

This is a 100% remote position with no expectation to travel. The role requires regular day time hours M-F.
